Anyone know of a steering wheel spacer that would bring the wheel out a bit and give more legroom ?

Being a bit long in the leg, I kept hitting the steering wheel with my knees when changing gear / braking on a recent test drive.

I found a Momo spacer here, but is has six mounting holes.
I understand the VX steering wheel is a Momo, but has 4 mounting holes. Would it fit ?

If you move the wheel out more, surely this will make entry and exit more difficult. :o

I was only looking at moving the steering wheel out 1/2 - 1 inch at most, and would have the seat fully back anyway. Surely it wouldn't make much difference (he says hopefully...) Anyone have any pics of the steering wheel in a disassembled state ?

6'5" or so.
I didn't have a problem during "normal" driving, but found my right knee kept hitting the steering wheel when pressing on a bit, moving from accelerator to brake and back (car was left-hand drive).

Found this spacer on eliseparts.com, which might do the trick, if the Elise and VX steering wheels have the same PCD. Just need to use longer bolts to fix it all together.

Did this not kill Ayrton Senna?

The actual cause of Senna's accident was the lack of space between the bottom and the road,

@TLS2: Bitte! ;) I hope you got response from Dempert-Automotive. Dempert-Automotive is the manufacturer and www.moto-concept.de distributes the Dempert-products. I think in case of the steeringwheel-spacer it's not official listet in the moto-concept shop because it's not legal to use it (german TÃœV)

Not heard from Dempert Automotive yet.... Hope I didn't offend them with my poor German translation.

Just sent a mail to moto-concept. If they're the distributor for Dempert, they should have some info/prices on the spacer.
Lots of other cool VX / Lotus stuff on their website too. :)

Of course not ;) As Jaggeler said, there is a slight problem concerning our TÃœV. So the wait to see how much will want this.

Believe me, there somewhere out there, they want them too. :D So we try to push this project forward.

I was only looking at moving the steering wheel out 1/2 - 1 inch at most,

1/2 - 1 inch makes all the difference between a comfortable ride and a not so comfortable ride you know!

One of our friends from the pic above has drawn the conclusion, that more than 45mm and the stockwires of the airbag wouldn´t fit anymore :o So you have to insert sth for 60mm, as he states.

Have you another experience?

THX for answering :)
