Okay, heres the deal. All those sports exhausts at the Nomties run has sold the idea to me. I've been flicking through the old posts and here's what I've surmised so far: Vauxhall Sports Exhaust: Sounds good, no power gains, supposedly illegal for road use but not too loud to break the noise limits at track days. £579 (incl. fitting) Regal: Deeper sound than Vauxhall pipe but apparently not so loud, slightly cheaper and small bhp gain. £540 (incl. fitting) Komo-Tec: Quite expensive, looks good, sounds good (Like fireworks when you lift the pedal at 6500rpm according to Ricky :D ) I couldn't ascertain whether there was any power gain. £686 (incl. fitting) Steinmetz: Looks great, probably sounds great too but I really couldn't give a t0ss since it's gonna cost at least £800 :o Milltek/Courteney: Nobody really knows enough to comment yet but future looks bright as they're all well reputed companies. I'm more interested in it sounding right than getting an extra claimed 5bhp so I'm looking for you to help me decide. I have some questions for anyone who might have been able to compare what's available: 1. Which do you think sounds better, Vauxhall or Regal? 2. If I order an exhaust from an overseas company (Komo-Tec for example) I assume it is shipped to me and I have to find someone to fit it. Who can I trust to fix it properly (Kwik-Fit is out of the question! :beat: ) and do you think the fitting likely to be expensive? 3. Do you think it's worth waiting for new options to come on the market? If so, what sort of thing do you think another company could provide that the others already don't!! 4. How competative are the Milltek/Courteney prices? Do you think they're likely to be more or less than Vauxhall? Sorry for all the questions. Every time I start looking around at the exhaust options I get cpmpletely bemused and always end up with the same questions! Hopefully some day soon I'll be able to ofer some of my own knowledge and repay you all. If any of you have any questions in the field of corporate aircraft operations I'll be more than glad to help  Ben

Regal: Deeper sound than Vauxhall pipe but apparently not so loud, slightly cheaper and small bhp gain. £540 (incl. fitting)

I had the Regal zorst fitted the friday before Nomties II. It's not quite as raucous as the Vauxhall sports, but it's loud enough for me :D

I joined the Vauxhall Sports Car club (http://www.vauxhallsportscarclub.co.uk) which gave me a 5% discount on parts from Regal and the final bill was £468.01 (including £50 fitting, not the £100 shown on their website).

Performance gain...yes, I have noticed a difference...engine revs more freely.

Ben, I collect my car from Milltek today. More details on the exhaust later. Should be ready for the market inside a couple of weeks I think (my car has been used as their development car) Paul

Thanks guys.

Anyone who didn't see it already, Paulb's report on the first ever Milltek VX exhaust are here

So, any more opinions on Vauxhall versus Regal? Looks like I might be going that way 'cos I can't wait any longer (!) and I'm looking for an inexpensive, uncomplicated option since I'm a bit strapped at the moment and have precious little motor mechanical knowledge!

There seem to be just a few good sport/race exhausts for the vx220/speedster.

Found another one from moto-concept germany. They seem to be a Lotus/Speedster specialist.
This page is in German, but they have an english one. Problem is that not al items are on the english pages.

Here's the link:

Not quite the same thing, but I e-mailed Courtenay Sport asking whether they do a replacement pipe for the pre-cat. This is their response:

Hi Lee, thanks for your enquiry, yes we do this pipe it is part of the centre section. Our pipe replaces the pre cat and also replaces the "oe" cat with a 200 cell per inch sports cat.  This will generally give 8-10 bhp. The pipe is made in stainless steel, and will directly replace the standard oe pipe. The cost is £395 + £65 to fit.

I'm hopefully (finally) getting a std 2.2 in a couple of weeks, and will be seriously considering having this fitted, rather than hammering the original pre-cat out.

Hope this helps
