To save me taking the trim and seats out of my car, just to measure, does anyone know what size the speakers in the VX are? I guess somewhere between 5 and 6.5. I think I hit mine with a bit too much stick this afternoon :o

I will not try to kid you. I know nothing about ICE. However I did a fair bit of research about what to fit in my car. I have the speaker box in front of me now. It takes 5 mins to change the speakers and the OE ones are fit only for the bin. Absolute rubbish. I fitted Clarion SRX 1784 16.5cm speakers. I had something else planned but when I arrived at the shop they had none left. Try CAR ELECTRONICS ltd.(Leicester + mail order + web etc) Good prices and people who really know what they are talking about!

cheers guys. Off to the car audio dealers this morning then... I was aiming to change them at some point. This just makes it sooner rather than later. Paul

I posted this before but never really got a solution. Did anyone manage to get teh passenger side speaker out/in without removing the seat? I am currently running one decent Sony speaker on the driver's side and one crappy Philips speaker on the other. I've bought the shortest possible screwdriver I can find but just can't get the angle to get the screws out. One of the screws seems to be going round and round which just adds to the problem. :beat: Any handy tips? (I think someone suggested a swiss army knife but this didn't seem to work for me).

I'll hopefully being trying later today! If I succeed I'll let you know. If possible, you don't want to take out the passenger seat as it is a pain.

Little stubby screwdriver worked for me. If one is just spinning round can't you pull it out?

;) It was me with the mini Swiss army knife screw driver. It was a hassle but I got there in the end. I guess it depends on the size of your mits too.

Do you have shovels for hands ;)

Seriously, if you are going on Sunday to the VP show I'll have my pen knife on my key ring ;)

Good luck.

I managed to get the speaker out using a bit from an electric screwdriver and a pair of pliers. It only needs a couple of turns, the rest can be done by hand. cheers Gerry

Thanks for the tips. Can't make it to the show on Sunday - I'm on holiday. Will give it another bash when I get back.

Right. Changed mine today for a pair of JL Audio Evolutions. Sounds much better.

I used a small ratchet that is sold with screwdriver bits and a small socket for about £9 to remove the speakers. It's made by Draper.

Standard VDO SSP 1711 fitted (165mm diameter). Been looking to replace both the speakers and the head unit. The problem I have come across is the shortage of space available behind the speakers, particularly at the O/S speaker unit. Installation depth for SSP 1711 is only 46mm. I think the available space would accommodate speakers up to 60mm, but this still isn't enough to install the Focal units I had in mind. Anyone come up against this problem?
