Hey guys, Noticed an odd noise coming from the back left of the car yesterday evening (to go with all the other noises that come from various bits of the car!). Sounded like a creaking noise when going over undulations in the road. Stopped to have a look, and when I compress the rear left suspension, it makes a noticeable creaking noise. All the others are fine, just that one that's noisy. I'm sure it wasn't like that a couple of days ago. Interestingly, when I stopped and manually compressed it (pushed down on the car over the back suspension) it creaked through the full range of travel - but after driving it about 100 miles, it now only creaks right at the extremety of travel. Any ideas what is it? Or how expensive it's going to be to fix? :(

A new rear shock is around £130 but is easy to fit yourself as Vauxhall will try to charge you another £70 fitting. I have charnged both my rear shocks now and its a different car. Marc

Is that the most likely point of failure? Is it possible/easy to check if it's the shock at fault?

2 'creak' points: Wishbone bushings.. Spray some water on them. If creak gone, then that's it.. Can't really do much about that one though.. Another is that at the back the rack rod inner balljoints get 'cooked' by the exaust and start to creak as the grease thins and runs out. Usually it's enough to lift the rubber seals, squeeze in some grease, work it around, and close it again. After a little while they go quiet again unless they were damaged. Bye, Arno.

periodically spraying some WD40 all around suspension joints helps a lot... otoh, if you hear a gasping/hissing sound from the shock, it might be a blown one...
