Just noticed the rubber cover is missing from your bonnet alarm switch!

I suspect it's been removed to be cleaned.

actually the whole thing has been taken apart now. whether it ever goes back together again is a different matter all together.

Nope, not tried yet, no rad nor charge cooler in place at the moment, so can't run.

You may notice on the above picture that it has now all disapeared.

I'll avoid giving you the same heart attack as i nearly had when i ordered a couple of new bits for the catch mechanism.

In the list of annoying things to do to VXs the replacement of the left hand rad hose rates pretty high. I didn't even really need to change it, but i thought i'd match the other side, 'while i was there'

I ought to admit i knew exactly what was going to happen. The aluminium pipes that carry the coolant from the rear to front only protrude about an inch and a half at best. And of course when you come to install the new pipe, the majority of the aluminium one disapears since it isn't held with very much. Anyway after some fun and games it eventually went on with about the minimum i was comfortable with.

Having said all that. pretty pathetic progress really. lots of things getting in the way of vx playing at the moment. But it'll be ready for the road in a couple of weeks time

Stopping the hinge flapping back down on top of the rad and damaging it, I guess.

Ya, gets replaced with a cardboard protector at a later stage. But in order to protect the rad after installation into the rad surround, the hinge has to be secured. I leave it until the clam is ready to go on.

Guessing you never use your rad as a tool tray haha. Want to clean the engine bay and wheel arches on mine. Ideally want some sort of squirt bottle that I spray on then wipe off leaving it clean. Do you know what I can use?

Was it not you who took the pi55 out my radiator-cable tie protection, whilst it was at Courtenays?

Engine usually needs a degreaser. Plastic wheel arches respond well to silicone cleaners. ACF50 is good for aluminum (but only good as cleaner for dust, won't removed ingrained dirt a weak degreaser like a bilt hamber or something as simple as washing up liquid if its very dirty). There aren't many that you can spray on a leave (other than engine degreaser - but it stinks)

Have a helper push the pipe back from the rear of the car. The coolant hose on the back may now have 'kinked' as you pushed it back. The pipes in the chassis beam are not held in place by anything. They are just pushed through some foam blocks and can move (as you experienced ;) )

A trick I sometimes use is to first push the pipe forward from the engine side in the chassis beam and then fit a cable-tie on the pipe close to the grommet at the front.

Now, if you're careful and use some lube, you can get the hose on the front without pushing the pipe back, then cut the cable tie and tighten the jubilee clip on the hose.

Bye, Arno.

shinny new catch has arrived :D (50 fucking quid :beat:)

But i was secretly hoping it might come with the top part of the catch (pictured to the left). Mine has cleaned up ok, sat in Gunk for a week, but i'd really prefer a new one.
can't find any reference to it on the TIS/Part diagrams. Anyone any ideas?
