My dad took his VX220 (the yellow one) into Regal today to get the map tweeked cos it was still pinking. Regal put the new map on and the ECU crashed saying it could not be transfered. In the end they took it to Picadors free of charge and let them see what was wrong with it. They said the ECU was fcuked basically and it needed replacing!! :o Regal did however agree to pay for it all £450 + VAT and labour etc... Good! It is however still there, as they haven't been able to get a code needed to program the ECU as the registration has been changed recently and I need the old reg! Can't get hold of the previous owner at the moment, so don't know the old reg, so it's staying the night at Picadors. Hopefully it will be done tomorrow, and in time for the SCC Run!! Don't know whether to get another Regal remap or not. Been recommended the AMD remap and i've always like them. Where can I get one? Credit to Picadors for being SO accomodating and helpful. Been talking with the MD and he's been very helpful, as have the mechanics. Even got a trip out in his VX220 Turbo! Never been in one before. My dad and I took it out, it fantastic!!! :D :D Got loads of mod it's running over 250bhp apparently and it's gotta Miltek, it sounds great! So that was fun, hopefully the car will be better soon!

I've had no experience with Regal and thus have no axe to grind, but a few members have had problems with them and they dont get a bad rap on here. Not to say they won't do a good job mind you. AMD used to do loads of VX's when Thorney worked with them, but now don't do as many - although i beleive they will still do some !?! That leaves you with Courtenay's and TMS - both of which i have heard nothing but good things about. I'm going to visit one of them with my baby at remap time. thumbsup

This has probably been asked hundreds of times, but...where are Courteney and TMS? and how much do they charge for an AMD map?

Just read about the pinking and the new ECU. When my car was in getting the timing chain rework, the mechanic noticed it was pinking when he took it out for a drive. They carried out a software upgrade to the ECU and I collected the car. The poor car had lost all its get up and go and was running nothing like it used to do so I took it back. They diagnosed either a new throttle body or ECU. The new throttle body made no difference so they had to get a new ECU. The next problem was they needed the Immobilisor code from the card that was supplied with the car. I dug the card out and called them with the details only to find out the card I was given by the supplying dealer, I bought the car new, was for a Vivaro van. The supplying dealer could not supply the code, Vauxhall could not supply the code so in the end the car got a new immobilisor as well, fortunately at no cost to myself. Have you got the "Car Pass" for the car Dan?

No, I've got nothing for the car as it was bought damaged for us to repair. We do have the details of the previous owner, who was incidently a Vauxhall salesman somewhere. We have not been able to get in contact with him today though. That's the code I need, the immobilisor one. They were saying they may need to change the ignition and the immobilisor if we can't get the code. Strange yours was a van!! Maybe it'l need a new immobilisor too, we will find out tomorrow anyway. Thanks

Hee hee cool! I don't know what happened at Regal. I wasn't there, my dad was. Apparently, they were loading on another map and it got to 99% and returned an error message saying there was an ECU error. Regal said it was their responsibility so, they are sorting it out at Vauxhall. Vauxhall have said it should be ready for tomorrow, so hopefully it will be. Thing is, it will only take 5 mins to program once the ECU is in, but it's a case of getting this code. Thanks for the offer Dave!

Ohhh JT won't like that ! :poke: :P ......TMS are based on Superchips technology but have custom maps. Thorney worked for / with AMD and helped them to develop their original maps.

I used to work with AmD's on all of their Vauxhall upgrades, then decided to go on my own. I developed all the AmD maps (all of their work Vauxhall and BMW actually) and after a few differences of opinion I went on my own and developed all NEW maps for all the cars. AmD now concentrate on what they know best - VAG and Porsche. The TMS maps are completely different to the AmD maps I did before as I wanted to start from scratch and put more development time into them all. Literally thousands of hours have been put in to develop a range of different maps for the VX and the VXT and each one is fine tuned to whatever mods the car has, there is no doubt that the TMS maps have the most development time. We specialise in the VX220 not just Vauxhalls. They are smoother and generate a better balance of torque and bhp. There is no connection between AmD and TMS at all (although they are borrowing my trailer next week to transport a car  )

Oooh OK! I think I saw a pic of your car with AmD on it (Not sure if it was yours) which prob made me think that. May be interested in a TMS map. When it comes back from Vaux it will have it's original map back on it, it's just that Regal is just down the road!

I drove to Norfolk (Courtenay) for my VXT stage 2 pack (I lived in Worthing at the time, 45mins from Regal) because I knew they would do a great job ... it's worth travelling for peace of mind sometimes. Fair play to Regal for forking out for the repairs though, I've not had great experiences with them in the past but at least they appear to be trying.

..would of gone to TMS but he wasn't in business at the time, fair bit closer than Norfolk!

Dan I had the same problem with a re-mapping company. Turns out the ECU died due to lack of core voltage from the battery. Again they replaced mine too and we took it to dealer for tech2 unlocking. All works fine now after re-map. My motor had been mapped several times before, no problems, but now it has a tracker and when we went to map it on the day it died, we never started the engine or ran it - hence battery dead (tracker kills it in as little as 1-2weeks!) never experienced Regal, Courtenay or TMS, but I doubt it was a fault due to Regal.

Yeah I don't particularly blame Regal, it's just the map wasn't that great. It is quite powerful and got rid of any flat spots but it pinked a lot. Interested intrying a different map.

One of the reasons we have a Tech2 (they're not cheap) is that we can sort any potential issues like this stright away. Fair play TO regal for sorting it though, nice to hear.
