I am down to about my last 5mm all round on my pads. Should I get them changed before the track day at Sliverstone in a couple of week? I suspect the answer is yes. Then the next question is which pad do peeps recommend, I want to stick with my standard disks and calipers. Prompt answer would be great on this, so that I can get them ordered and on next week to give them time to bed in. Thanks Chris PS, rear tyres are close to the limit to, but I'll get these ordered and change these the day after the track day.

IMO 5mm may be Ok on the rears but questionable on the front. Would be interested in other views though Paul

*bump* Any one else got thoughts on this. I need to get them ordered today and on this week to give me a good chance of bedding them in before next week. Chris

Depends on the pads.. but most don't require a massive bedding-in procedure anymore. The last few sets of pads I've had (EBC/Pagid) have been bedded in within 5 minutes.

you need to order your tyres asap, vex. i spoke to ATS with regards to mine yesterday when getting my girl's coupe reskinned. the rears are on back order at bridgestone, but they managed to source some from elsewhere... on the pads. scaredstiff told me to stay away from redstuff and greenstuff. go with the mintex was their opinion.

Having just installed a set of greenpads on the front, I can highly recommend them. They transform the pedal feel, and makes it firmer. At the same time you get improved braking. One or two people have said that it has led to their brake discs warping, however, I would say that this is related to the pad generating higher temperatures, and more friction, it is a risk that is inevitable if you wish to improve your braking capabilities (without introducing air ducts, bigger, thicker discs, etc to avoid heat build up). cheers

Just ordered a set of EBD Green Stuff fronts and rears from PVD for £60! Merlin wanted £48.26 + VAT for theMitex M1144 fronts and £61.74 + VAT for the rears. That came in at over double the Green stuf price. As long as the greens are better than the standard fit vauxhalls I will be very happy. Now off to find tyres!

I don't like red or greenstuff either. Too cheap and not always so cheerful. My own personal favourites are Pagid, but check out the price and sit down first.....however, remember brake pads are a safety critical consumable, and you get what you pay for :)

I'm with Dave ! EBC just won't last and so in the long run it's a false economy. Pagid for me from now on, nothing else compares

As a first mod, sure Vex will be more than happy - they will stop better and last as long as standard vauxy pads :D

I used to run GreenStuff on my Astra - they'd easily last 16/17k miles... Standard VX pads were only lasting the same. Incedentally, it's not as though I wasn't using them hard either - could manage to get some fade with GreenStuff, and the Black Diamond grooved & drilled disks :) wrt Tyres, noticed that one of the 'pre-loved' VXs that Wayne has has got SO-3s on the rear - have you driven it Wayne? Are they any good? cheers

I just got hold of some Pagid RS14's front & rear. I'll let you know how they turn out as soon as they're on :jump:

Just spoken to Micheldever. £200.63 for Bridgestone 040BZ (Standard Fit), with the correct compound code for the VX or £219.43 for Bridgestone 050BZ, again with the correct code for the VX. I think I'll be going for the 050's for the extra £20. My local (and Very good) tyre shop will drop them on for £15.00 a tyre inc valve and balancing. As for brakes, I don't really mind about the wear of the green pads, as long as they are better than the vauxhall standard fit then I will be happy. £80 fitted per pair is a bit steep at vauxhalls, compaired to £60 + what, another £40 to fit.

Is that for the pair VEX (I hope so!)? How many miles did you get out of your current set. Mine are ready for changing having done 13k. Usual?

Ok, I am currently on about 14.5K miles with the rear set which I though was pretty good. Yes that price is for the pair. If peeps are interested, and we all need a pair each in the next couple of weeks I'll speak to Micheldever's as see if I can get a better price for 6, 8 or 10. Who would be interested?

I am up for getting a pair of rears although I would like to know the answer to cheeky_chops question in another thread about using alternatives. I dare say there is a good reason why no one else is using anything other than the Bridgestone's so if we can get a fair deal then I'm interested, thank you. Also like to know who that tyre shop is as £15 sounds pretty decent. Fitting the pads yourself? cheers
