Well its been 6000 miles and 3 months and of 5 weeks of them with a sick VXT. It all started 6 weeks after getting the piper x viper fitted to the turbo, The car started blowing air flow mass metters, Which did not cripple the car but did not make it run to well. I was told when the 1st new metter was fitted that the piper x was not to blame but then when it went through another two the garrage then started to change there tune, so the car was put back to standered and another metter fitted. Two hundred mile later pop went that metter, so yet unother visit to the garrage and some more time in shitist car they could give me as a run around(this was now visit n 5) so am starting to get very pissed off.PS so looks like it was not the Piper x.Now I am being told that a new control unit is to be fitted so the car should be ready in a couple of days, two days later go back to pick car up, Oh sorry sir we now have to change the wiring harness as well  So I make a big stink and vauxhall hires me a merc to cruise in for a few days. Now today on my way to pick up the car I get a call saying the (tecy has just had the car out and another mass flow metter has gone pop) :( Anyway I have told the garrage that I am booked on to silverston, and they have promised me that vauxhall will provide me with a car for they event on wed which i will pick up at the event. Now here the question will the garrage be as good as there word or will they try and get out of the deal, I will find out tommorow. Kirk VXT

Sorry to hear about your troubles.. strange fault though with so many of the units failing..? Let us know if they keep their word.

Interesting. I've had a PiperX for the last 2k and only problem I've had was when I washed the car with a running hose rather than with spray and I got a load down the pipe into it. Onceit dried out again it was fine.

N111RAW It's mass flow meter, not metter ;) It measures the amount of air flowing into the engine in order the ECU can match the correct amount of fuel (in simplicity). Kirk Let me guess - you oiled the filter element, as per the instructions? I know of loads of Imprezas that have let go because of oiled filters fouling the MAF sensor, and I do NOT like them. If a car had a dry filter as OEM, I won't fit an oiled one as replacement, regardless of make. I spoke to Pete at PVD about this when I first got my PiperX Viper VXT kit (which I haven't fitted yet, waiting for the Milltek) as I wasn't happy oiling it and he said funnily enough he had had the same discussion with PiperX the previous day about whether to fit it dry or not. If you did oil it, that's likely the culprit - it's getting on the meter and fouling it. Be careful, because if the engine gets the wrong ECU messages from a fouled mass meter and runs lean, you could then be losing a piston or two into the bargain........

Does the induction kit come with fitting instructions? should it be "wet or dry"?

I just spoke with AmD (who fitted mine) who said the unit comes with a very light film of oil already on the filter, they fitted it as that and I've had no problems. When these instructions say 'very' light film....they mean VERY light film. Do that and you'll be fine though. I love mine :groupjump:

1) Yes it does.

2) Wet (your word, not the kit's, if you get my meaning ;) ).

If I fit mine at all, and at the moment it's 50:50 whether I bother or not, it will be dry :)

To clarify, having looked at the instructions that came with mine, all it says is "oil with spray provided before use" - it doesn't say sparingly or otherwise. Also, mine arrived dry, which conflicts with what AmD said about Thorney's

Does anyone else have any comments - good or bad - re PiperX as I am having mine fitted at AMD on Saturday with the Milltek exhaust. If water gets into the induction unit can it damage anything? Really dont want to take risks with my pride & joy I would sooner not fit than have a potential problem. Is there any ongoing maintenance with the kit? Any info appreciated. cheers

SILVERSPEED There's two dirty great grilles on top of the engine so it is designed to be able to cope with some water ingress. Thorney decided to stuff the hose down his engine compartment though which by his own admission was a bit daft ;) Re ongoing maintenance, the filter element will need cleaning from time to time, and re-oiling if you decide to oil it in the first place. Frequency of this will depend on how much crud it ingests. Catch #22 - the oiling will help with dirt retention, but may, and only may, get onto the mass flow meter and contaminate it if it is overoiled.

Thanks Dave T-S - I'm just being paranoid about doing anything knowingly that could do long term damage to the engine. Thorney sent me a PM re getting it fitted and I know he doesn't regret it at all. Also not mechanically minded so this is all new to me. Just want to get a car that I will enjoy and beat my neighbours GT3 on the track when he gets it next year (for approx a third of the price!!) cheers
