From the TIS CD: Maximum thickness – 26.0 mm ; minimum thickness – 24.9 mm . My micrometer turned up today and I measured the following thicknesses: Front: 23.17mm Rear: 23.80mm BUT Measuring the very outer lip of the disk, that's only 24.4mm... The car has done 36k on these discs and I assume the are standard ones. What's going on?

sounds like theyve been re-skimmed by first owner ? but that would of meant distorting at a very low mileage which would be extremely strange ?

I doubt it, I know the first owner. Firstly I don't think he would have scrimped, secondly there is no invoice and thridly the lip thickness is the same for the front and rear.

For info, I think the values on the TIS CD may be wrong... Strangely the measurements on the TIS CD are the same as for the Elise, which uses completely different discs. The Lotus TIS CD is also incorrect: ========================================================= I believe that the 24.9mm figure published in the Service Notes is a carry over from the MMC discs. The correct figure for the iron discs is as cast onto the discs themselves = 24.0mm Yours sincerely, Dave Massey - Technical Service Senior Technical Author Lotus Cars Ltd. =========================================================

This link Clicky has some disk manufacturers specs on it, although 21mm min thick seem a little low.

AFAIK VX220/Speedster/Vectra/SAAB (they're all the same) discs start out at 25.0mm and you have to replace them at 22mm. Elise discs from Lotus start out at 26.0mm and need to be replaced at 24.0mm. Better steel quality aftermarker ones (aka. not made from cheese :) ) can be used to around 23/22mm as well. Bye, Arno.

Does anyone have a contact at Vauxhall customer services that I could call to find this out?

Excellent, I have just checked the TIS CD for the Vectra B. There is a lot more info there than for the VX. It states for the 2.5 (and other larger engined) Vectras the minimum value is 22mm. No need to change mine just yet, will do it on the next change of pads though.

Checked mine today as I thought they looked "low", and measured at 23.4mm on the rear and 23.2mm on the front. They are the original discs, and done 27k miles (I bought the car with 15k miles). Think i'll get them changed before too long. I looked on the TIS cd too, and got a bit worried when it said 24.9mm minimum :o .
