Got a call from the bodyshop today. They are having trouble getting the paint for our LY with the code off the badge thingie. Think he said its 4LU? But still, hes having trouble finding the match and I think he's looked under Opel aswell. Can anybody shed any light on this for us please or does anybody know if theres a reason why has hes having trouble? Any help would be appreciated Liz

This doesn't really help, but I just went to my local scummy paint shop and asked for Vauxhall 4LU and they made me up an aerosol can there and then. I'm not saying Vauxhall are being useless twats again that'll use any excuse to be a pain in the arse. Why would I say that? I'd ring a couple of local paint shops and see if they can get hold of it. When they say yes, call Vauxhall and tell them to pull their finger out.

Yep, I just ordered an LY paint touch up pen, and had troubles.... They called Vaux HO and got the part number, but it's not listed on the average dealers computer as 4LU for some reason?

I think the Dupont code Ratspants posted is probably more universal and easier for non-Vauxhall companies to understand - but you'd think the chimps at Vauxhall would have enough sense to be able to recognise their own paint codes without us having to do the research for them, wouldn't you.

The paint code is also on the full VIN plate according to >this< but I guess you have to already know what you're looking for

Anyone got a LY who can go and find where P4823 is on their VIN plate (where is the VIN plate? Do we even have one like in the photos?). Once we have found the location on one car, we can get the dupont codes for the other colours.

OK, using the >DuPont Online Colour Retrieval Tool< you can convert any Vauxhall/Opel paint code to the DuPont Number. It confirms that 4LU is actually DuPont P4823.

I'll work on the others...

The VX220 dealership that I worked at, had no problems mixing the paint in 2002 & 3 from the info above, official touch up took a bit longer ElizP987 didn't say that her car was in a VX bodyshop or have I missed something

Gosh, wasnt expecting so many posts so quickly. Many thanks for all your help. I'm going to ring the guy now and mention that dupont code and see if he can find it that way. The car isnt in a VX bodyshop by the way so maybe this is causung the problems? thanks again for the help will let you know how I get on Liz

Well, have just telephoned him and he said he rand Vauxhalls @ Chester (vx dealership) and they didnt have the code 4LU listed . So anyway, he bloke he was speaking to went through to the bodyshop and theyve ended up giving our bodyshop man the contact details for the people that actually supply the paint for them. So, hes rang them and so I think he will be getting it direct (depending what the cost is). Have also given him the dupont code so will see what comes off it, and will print the mix off (great link-thanks). thanks again for your help guys! Liz

There are 4 yellows that I have found:

Yellow Solid - 40C/2PU - M3441
Brilliant Yellow - 4HU - P4512
Capri Yellow Effect - 4GU - M3440
Brilliant Yellow Effect - 4LU - P4823

4LU is named an "Effect" paint which distinguishes it from 4HU (another Brilliant Yellow) and possibly suggests from the other colours that it is a pearlescent paint?

Some further debate that suggests 4LU is for the lightning and 4HU for other NAs and Ts in Brilliant Yellow >here<.

Capri Yellow is what they call Titan Gold in Germany btw All the paintcodes are listed on my webpage as well

That's what I thought initially until I started playing around on the DuPont website. If 4GU is correct for a Titan Gold car then DuPont do indeed call that paint "CAPRI YELLOW EFFECT", but if I do a search for "Titan Gold" then I find a paint called "GIALLO CAPRI/TITAN GOLD EFFECT" which is a different DuPont paint code.

CAPRI YELLOW EFFECT - 4GU - M3440
GIALLO CAPRI/TITAN GOLD EFFECT - 2VU - M5186

This shows that Titan Gold does go under another name that has Capri in it, but that the name is Giallo Capri rather than Capri Yellow. Capri Yellow and Giallo Capri are two different colours from what I can determine using DuPont paint codes.

Is 4GU actually correct for a Titan Gold car? Can anyone with a Titan Gold car confirm this? (all 2 of you )

Giallo is Italian for yellow. Not that that helps Where did 4GU come from in the first place? I'm starting to warm to the idea that it probably is the code for Titan Gold Ben
