The radiator fan on my na VX220 has suddenly "decided" to run permanently. Irrespective of coolant temp - it is on ! I've had a look on the TIS and the circuit appears to be coolant temp sensor in the thermostat housing feeding the ECU which in turn sends a signal to the stack display and the fan relay which feeds the fan. - have I got this correct ? The stack display operates normally showing a range of temps you would expect - so I assume that the sensor is OK. This leaves ECU (oh god please no !!) - or a fault on the relay - or something else I have not thought of......... Has anybody come across this before please ?

Usually happens when the ECU goes into limp mode. If it is in limp mode you should have an EML on. Take out fuse 8 for about 10 minutes and see if it helps any... this will reset the ECU.

if the coolant temp sensor fails, with it fail "open" or "closed" circuit?

Speedster - you are a star ! - very many thanks, worked a treat. thumbsup My only problem now is what would have caused this ? I am not helped at present in that my MIL light is on continuously due to no catalyst fitted. I have the MIL eliminator from Courtenay's but this is not working correctly. Mark is going to email me the details of how to change the wiring on the MIL eliminator so that any other engine problem can be highlighted. Fingers crossed it was just a "glitch". I suppose a Tech 2 would give me the answer - but not something I have in my own toolbox !
