My engine light came on this AM.... after a long spell of slow moving traffic...

These are the Scantool codes:

Stored

P0378 Timing Reference High Res Signal B Intermittent / Erratic Pulses
P0420 Catalyst system efficiency below threshold (Bank1)
P0312 Cylinder 12 Misfire detected (this one appeared after I cleared the others ?)

Pending

P0778 Pressure control solenoid B electrical.

Any assistance gratefully recd.. :) thumbsup

Plus only P0420 cleared from system - there was 'clicking' from bonnet when 'clearing' codes - but they wasn't removed.... (although connection tab did report zero codes.. ?)

thanks Robski.... got my ar$e in gear and checked the scantool web site (gendan - it's a very efficient service).. 0378 comes back with wiring problem (ECU/Crankshaft sensor) so will clean these at weekend. 0420 is O2 sensor - so I reckon that just moved out of tolerance. 0778 - no prob causes available... You get just three free look-ups per 7 days so will check 0312 next week if no one knows here... A great idea for a sticky topic on this, ie. fault codes, definitions and fixes thumbsup (we could send the specialists out of business though  PS I've never been able to install TIS - so if someone knows Imnotworthy

Any codes that are in the format P0xxx are generic OBD codes, and should be standard across all manufacturers (this is to allow garages to determine faults without having to have a fault code reader for every manufacturer of car that exists).

There's a list of the generic fault code reasons here.

P0312 is an interesting one! You done a conversion we don't know about?!

P0420 is as said a lambda sensor failure - they do fail quite easily. Simple job to replace them though. Also worth checking the wiring going to the sensor, as it could be caused by a loose connection as well.

P07xx codes are braking and transmission-related I think - not sure more specifically though...

Interestingly Mick, yesterday I got: P0420 Catalyst system efficiency below threshold Cleared it fine. Did you get any new software with your version of the Scantool?

Hi Paul I used the SW from the Gendan site... (Scantool supplier..)... I have written to above who are very helpful... they have asked for the fault log to decipher/check/fix codes... thumbsup I'll report back when I know more...

Links appear to be from the old Scantools.net site. Here is the up-to-date version.

I've read fault codes now using Scantool software... and this reports just one faulty code (P0420 - Catalyst limit, which is par for the course... given my mods.) thumbsup So if you purchase use the latter SW package for accurate code reading :) It's really neat being able to interrogate ECU light, and not spend £25 per time at local dealer :D I'll do it for a £5.... thumbsup
