Ever wondered what happened to the old Johnathon Palmer Vx's?

Well while I was getting my tyres changed, a bloke walked up to me and asked if it was an NA or a Turbo.
I mentioned it was a NA and he said that he'd just bought some Ex Vx track cars. I finally found out they were from Bedford.
Apparently he is selling them for 12 grand each. Should be interesting to see if he can sell them. I suppose the cars have been maintained but I'm not sure i'd want an ex track car.

his website is - http://www.howardsmee.co.uk

btw he has bought 5 of em.

If you were looking for something to thrash on the track then they would be a bargain. If people thought they were getting something that would be a cheap road car then they might have some unpleasant surprises.

Did my track day not too long after the I got the VX in apr 2000 and the cars they had running then had seen some "action". 12K for something that will definately been hammered seems a little expensive when you can pick up a seemingly great nearly new na for 15 to 18K. All the interior was wrecked on the cars we drove and we saw 2 failures on the day - one I drove on the slalom seemed to have knackered the rack or associated steering bits after my run. at least you can guarantee they're loose :D Steve

My instructor told me that when Palmersport finished with them they are stripped down and rebuilt before re-sale. I still think I'd prefer one with Network Q warranty to be sure though... James

I'm sure I heard the myth somewhere that it was part of the agreement with Vauxhall that these cars never made it into the hands for the public since it might give the cars a bad rep when they inevitably fail. I thought the cars were broken down so I'm surprised they actually dispose of them in this way.

I've done two Palmersport days and asked Neville (the lead instructor) on both ocassions what was the plan for the NAs. I got two different answers  Firstly that the agreement with Vauxhall was that they were to be crushed. Secondly that they were to be sold to a track day company for training/corporate days. Both times I was told under no circumstances were they to be sold for road use. ;)

Interestingly, a couple of the instructors suggested that some of the cars are better than others and they have their own favourites. I guess this is down to their handbuilt nature, but an interesting point nonetheless. They looked well worn to me - the driver's seat on one of them was nearing useless! The amount of abuse they're going through is amazing!

Okay 3rd time lucky, me computer keeps crashing, so my replies aren't posting. The palmer cars can be bought BUT you sign a contract to say they will never be used on the road, so it will be interesting to see if this bloke does sell them onto unsuspecting customers who will be expecting a warranty and back up, poor sods. P.S the official line is ' They are crushed and returned to VXL' Wayne

Good God! They could never allow that to happen. Just imagine if these cars got a reputation for poor reliability.
