Hello All ! Hope you are all sitting comfortably with a hot cocoa or a pint. Stay with me. Want to tell you a little about my experiences yesterday at the above dealership in Yorkshire. Car was booked in for 20k service (after reading on the site that my other choice - JCT600 Bradford were incompetent with VX220's) , rear brake pad fit and air flow control knob not working. Also received my letter for wheel re-call on tuesday so perfect timing - they could look at that at the same time. Booked in for 1st thing wednesday by efficient receptionist. Got there at 7.30 (up at 05:45 on my day off :( ) after a leaky journey and was asked when I would like the car back. Settled on 2pm so I could get home before the rush hour. Got a call at 1.30 saying that there had been a delay in looking at the car and it would be an hour later to collect (starting to get wound up here - not exactly complicated tasks I've asked them to carry out). Rang at 2.30 to be told they were still working on the brake pads - it would now be 3.30. Turned up at 3.30 - guess what ???? ......still working on the car - would be ready at 3.50. I exploded at 4.15. Kicked off in a big way - demanded to see the service manager - stopped some people coming into the showroom and suggested they go elsewhere. My car turned up 5 minutes later - ready (or so they said). Stupidly (given hindsight) I paid the bill then asked to see the service manager. The control knob had not been looked at (they had had my car for 8 1/2 hours by this time) and the car was 2 1/2 hours late. I later found greasy marks all over the offside front wing too - car has been spotless when it arrived. Outcome - they are going to have the car in again (needs vacuum pipes changing under warranty too). Said they would come and collect it from my house - but the last thing I want is for some yoof razzing round yorkshire in my car. The work could take 2 DAYS. Wouldn't even agree over the phone to tackle the control problem free of charge. I'm all for giving people a second chance - and I'll feedback after this second attempt - but for now I would seriously consider going somewhere else - a long, long way from Nidd Vale vauxhall in harrogate. the only problem is where do you take your beloved VX for some car and attention in Yorkshire ? Thes main dealers should be ashamed - or better still out of business. Regards - soap box now safely re-holstered. Tim

Sounds similar to my Nidd Vale experiences, documented elsewhere (but ready to rant again!) rant . They're very keen to promote their customer service, & I always find them friendly & helpful - but does the right hand know what the left hand's doing? No way. Booked mine in for new fronts/wheel balancing, was told the wheel balancing "at least" a 2 hr job. Took half day off work, left car with them, walked around Harrogate for 3 hrs, returned, asked if car ready. Girl phones workshop - "no, the wheel balancing machine broke with your car on it". Er, they could have phoned me & told me that earlier... Was categorically assured the machine would be fixed if I bought the car back for 8am Sat - hardly great, don't live nearby. Went direct to the workshop at Hornbeam Park on Sat, where they clearly had a fair few jobs to do before mine (incidentally the machine hadn't broken whilst mine was on, that was a fib, it happened prior, or I'd not have been able to drive the car away). An hour or two later - not fixed. Took it away seething angry, took another half day of work in the week, took over 4 hrs before it was ready - walked for 2 hours only to come back to find they'd not even started yet. I'd love an alternative to go to, but JCT isn't an option & I want to keep at least half civil with Nidd in case I need any warranty work doing. Sorry to hear your experience was as frustrating. Edit: I did at least get to spend some time admiring the TreVoRs at Harrogate Horseless Carriage at Hornbeam Park; love the Sagaris. Asked the head honcho there whether TVR had sorted their sketchy reliablility problems: "There's never been any problem Sir". :)

Don't get ME started on Drivestyle - ex tiv owner here and in the early days of DS opening their staff knew nothing about the cars they were selling, fine if it's a corsa, but not 40 grands' worth imho.

recently needed the services of Nidd Vale when my VXT broke down. I didn't know alot about the history of the car - it's Gavins' old car (L11 VXT). They are checking whether I am covered under warranty for the new ECU they have put in (fingers' crossed).

Aside from that, found Nidd Vale to be.... erm OK ish with a bit of a shrug and a frown. they seem to have done the repair work fine, but car came back to me filthy (when I had my old beemer fettled at Victoria - always came back valeted), and rant with a nice 2 inch scratch on the o/s front wing, which they said they would sort.

car feels noticably slower than was - but if you do know anything about it can you PM me rather than make public just in case those nice vaux peeps are reading.

cheers Satch

Nidd Vale have always been excellent for me, even did a few things FOC on my last service! I'm going back next week for the recall work, so i'll see if perhaps they've gone downhill. Edited to say I saw L11 VXT broken down on my way home from work a few weeks back - its a Moonland one isn't it?

I read everyone responses and thought "yeah sounds about right". I've had similar experiences with them too, but i always make sure i've got a courtesy car booked now. I also call before is set off just to make sure its all ready. Once bitten, twice shy as they say... Other than that they've been ok i guess - they started off excellent, but service isnt as good these days Sorry to hear they've been rubbish with you too though

mine went into perrys in doncaster yesterday for the recall inspection, no problems as yet (touchwood), teh car was ready earlier than they said it would be. even showed me the order slip for the parts to prove they had ordered them. going in on wednesday for the work to be carried out. i'll see how good they are then. best part is they text you to remind you of your appointment and also when the car is ready!

My NA has been in for 2 services at Nidd Vale and they have been spot-on, even coming in under-quote on one of them! No damage, no delays and didn't do anything un-necessary. Must be inconsistent.....?

Have also used Nidd Vale for last couple of years, service and sales staff have been excellent. Got my vx back on the road quickly in Jan when it failed its MOT because of the brake vacuum hose.

I bought my VXT from Nidd Vale in Harrogate. I travelled there to buy it. It was an ex demo.. 3 months old at the time. Over the moon with the price at the time and everything else. The only problem I had with them was that at the time of viewing and buying I took various photos with my digi camera of exterior and interior so I could look at them and.. :D (smile) until I took delivery. I was waiting for a big payout from my business at the time so that I could pay for it. I read about the VXT's whilst I was waiting for a number of weeks.. and read about some of the extras that you can get with them... unable to remember what extras I got I ranf and asked the same sales guy if I got the footest etc and what strereo I got as I couldn't remember 100%. He rang me back and said that the car did not have a footrest installed... and had a specific stereo (which was a black bog standard thing!). When I analysed the photos that I remembered about.. it clearly showed that the car I bought when viewed had the passenger footrest installed and a Los Angeles MP3 player. So basically.. the garage or salesmen was trying to have my eyes out by stripping the car out. Once I rumbled them, they gave the lamest excuses. Love the car... glad I've bought it........ but when things go dodgy like that, it's hard to put your trust back into someone... for a service or another car sale. :o

Aye, I'd not say Nidd Vale are worse than any other VX garage. I guess it annoys me that they go in for this "first class service/customer always first" self-promotion, only to let themselves down dramatically. My early dealings with them were great.

a further NVH update.

needed two rear tyres. got best quote from Kwik Fit in hgte - yes those people.

5 days to source the tyres.

1 visit where I had to show them how to jack the car up and to find they didn't have a narrow walled spanner.

2nd visit to establish that at visit 1 - 'kin numpty left the locking wheel nut on o/s of car which then rattled off on a country lane.

contacted NVH to assess likelyhood of a replacement locker.

"I'm afraid they don't do spares as each one is unique to each car, we'll have to chisel off the old ones and give you a set of new ones £115."

satch "er, no thanks".

expect back to KF (those pesky tyre fitting experts ) at the weekend. tossers.
