I've done a search and not found anything although I'm sure this has been done before. How many VXs were built & how many stayed in the UK ???? And, what officially were the build years? I thought the VX was only going to be built for 3 years but I'm sure it was made for longer than this. Graham.

As far as I can remember, when I ordered mine away back in March 2000, I am sure I was told that there would be 1000 made each year for 3 years. They were probably on sale longer due to the fact that they did not sell as quickly as first expected. I cant recall if this was total production or just for the UK.

I think that - if the VIN numbers are anything to go by - that ~5500 have been built...

Anorak on  Original plan was to build upto 10000 cars in 3 years, 1000/year for the UK & 2000/year for Europe. The original desposit take looked like the car was going to be over subscribed, a poor advert, build quality problems & Vauxhalls statement that the £2k was returnable if the car wasn't up to expectations, led to a lot of cancelled orders. From being told the demonstrator had too last 12 months, suddenly cars were available ex stock! A lot less than a 1000 cars were registered (something like 400), similars numbers were sold in 2002 but Lotus had a contract to build the higher numbers. The cars were stored by On Time, in warehouses in the Banbury area. 2003 Vauxhall introduce the turbo, extend production into 2004 & slow the build numbers down. Hundreds of 2.2's are sat unsold. Anyway with serious offers on the 2.2 from late April & the turbo, the VX220 had it's best year by far for registrations 2004 Although I don't no of any 2003 model year 2.2's, the car was dropped in early Jan, leaving just the turbo, until the VXR was announced. Again lots of deposits, production increased from 50 to 65, & again cancellations :( , hence some were left in dealer showrooms in to 2005 :D 2005 Production ends 3rd qtr. 2006 Again still some left unsold. Without checking the chassis number thread, but I believe there are gaps between 2001 model year & 2002MY and a similar thing between last 2.2 & the turbo starting at 6000. I would guess at between 2000 - 2500 cars in the UK & a total of less than 8000. Most boring post of the year? :sleepy:
