Hi guys, Boring topic I know, but I'm installing a head unit in the VXT. The cars wiring has the following coloured wires excluding speaker wires: Black Yellow & Gray Mauve Red & Black Green Green & Brown Purple & Orange I bought the car with no stereo so i have no radio manual to compare wire positions. Any help identifying the wire's purpose would be much appreciated. Tried a few searches also with no luck Thanks Jay.

Jay I take it then your head unit doesn't have an ISO connector? Most recent units (last couple of years) all use a standard connection system, so will just plug straight in. If yours doesn't have this then I believe most car audio shops will sell you a convertor which is the bit to plug into the ISO connector on the car, but with bare wires coming out the back to connect to your stereo. I believe that it is all standard stuff so you should get some labelling on this adaptor to let you know where everything should go. regards Chris

Just bought a new head unit, after upgrading the speakers... I'm gonna fit the unit on Saturday. I was assuming there would be an ISO connector behind there !!! Please tell me if i am wrong - i don't fancy messing with wires !!

Black earth wire is earth There is a green wire next to the earth is switched 12 volts current. The purple wire two holes along from the black wire provides the permanent 12 volts. That's all I can remember :( Best to get the ISO plug sorted really.

The remaining four wires are the two speakers. It should be easy to suss out which wires go to which speaker with a 1.5v battery. Steve

Got it sorted guys, with the ISO converter. Thanks Also fitted Infinity component speakers, Mid range in the rear and tweaters in the front. Very pleased with the results. The headunit sticks out from the dash quite far. I guess it's because I cut the hole in the facia myself. Does the proper facia make the radio slightly more inset?

Hi Jay Yes the proper dash panel with the radio cutout is slightly recessed, so the unit doesn't stick out. Regards Chris

Check out "Editorials - How To" section for my guide on connecting speedpulse. (BTW, it's also possible to connect to a wire behind the speedo in the dash)
