Been thinking for a while now about buying a Rolex Submariner (with date), stainless with black face. Been in a few places to see what they can offer and as expected no discount available. The best I had found was in Northern Goldsmiths, offering 12 months interest free, Until Tuesday that was. I went into a local Jewellers (a registered Rolex agent) and they have 18 months 0% available. Ive had/got the "replica" but would prefer to buy the real thing as an investment. Just before I jump in with 2 feet has anyone come across any better offers? Not bothered about traveling, I'd just make it a day out. Price quoted was the list price of £2610. They seemed very friendly and didnt turn their noses up when I went in with jeans and trainers on, Northern goldsmiths on the other hand, the female wouldnt even come over to speak to me and spoke to me from about 10ft away when asked if they could match the deal offered to save traveling 1hour down the road. She also decided that the 0% wasnt available on rolex sports watches. Funny how on the previous day in another branch (whilst wearing a suit) the salesman told he can do 12 months with but require a £400 deposit to order the watch, the other jeweller needs just £100. Ive searched and know a few people have bought them in the past so hope someone can reassure me.

Mark mate, Set up a regular savers account, and deposit monthly the 12 installments you would have paid at 0% That way you will have the required £££ + circa 6% interest. Re-visit goldsmiths and ask for their best price for cash....you should expect to see about 15% off the asking price. I reckon you should make a net saving of about £400

I can't save to save my life!! I could however pay the payments every month as I know these need to be paid. I plan to save up arounf 1k deposit anyway in the time waiting for it. I'm told due to them having 3 on order it will be about 9 months, this gives me time to get my sept and march sales bonus's in and put toward it. Insidently, if I do save up I can't see any discount happening.

Whys that then mate? Ive never paid the asking price for a watch in my life... I was in Goldsmiths a few weeks back and a bloke next to me asked for 'the best price' on a breitling...sales woman said she would ask the manager....then came back, asked if it was for cash, and offered the bloke £200 off Im presuming thats because its a Rolex then?

Mark, Sam bought me a Tag for my engagement present, now obviously it wasnt anywhere near the price your thinking of paying for a rolex . But we went into a few jewellers in Bournemouth after i had trawled the net for prices from watch companys, goldsmiths were rubbish, but an independant shop (very posh) gave me 70 quid off there and then (the watch retailed for £695). If you arm yourself with deals and prices off the net, they wont match it but im sure they will do there hardest to keep your business, there are after all 100's of jewellers all viing for your money

Wow £2610 for a watch! Why not stick with your replica mate? At least then when you lose it pissed up one night it might not totally break your heart! Anyone I know with a Rolex is too scared to wear it most of the time and tend to have a "second" day to day watch anyway! I have just spent £75 on a chavvy G shock on flea bay, and that was a bit extravagant on my part! (have to have something strong because of my idiotic hobbies!) Respect for having the balls to buy it though!

A couple of months ago I traded a 1999 blue faced Submariner Bi-metal (gold and stainless) for the 2006 model and I still got £100 off. Still not that great for a £4000+ purchase. I wear mine every day (Depends on you job I guess) and have done since I bought my original 'sub'.

Oh yes they do

Saying that, the better ones (daytonas) tend to tick so much (about 6 times a second) it sounds like a weird mechanical whirr

WOW No disrespect to anyone and spend your money on what you want, but even if I could afford it I couldnt contemplate spending that much money on a watch. I know its not much in the scheme of things, I used to "look after" some wealthy Arabs that threw around their 10k watches like a cheap digital. Yes they look nice/yes, sometimes its an investment/yes a £15 argos cheapie will do the same but not look as good. Also i'm clumsy as hell so whatever I wear would be scratched up before long Good luck with the purchase Andy

I have it from a very good source in the industry that the waiting list for rolex is a marketing ploy. More commonly than not, if you order your rolex, they'll place you on the waiting list (which I thought was 2 years for the submariner!), then low and behold, you'll get a phone call a few weeks later saying they have one in which you can have if you want - so you rush down and buy it straight away. Guarantees they never have to carry expensive stock, only the demo model.

The waiting list is purely there to make the brand seem exclusive.

Ive asked about the waiting list and they said it'd be about 6-9 months. This suits me as I won't be wanting it for around 12 months, they seem flexible on this and said if it came in to soon they'd just reorder me one. Thanks everyone Going to wait till the end of the month before making an moves

I used to work in a watch specialist in Vancouver. What I found over there was that they were considerably cheaper than in the UK, plus getting 15-20% off the local price was routine (20% for a cash sale) so there is a bargain to be had. On a watch at that price the saving would probably cover the airfare and you'd get a holiday thrown in . Its doubtful that they'd have it in stock though so you could probably have to order it in advance and negotiate over the phone then go and pick it up. For info the place was called "Time and Gold" and is in the centre of downtown. No doubt a similar thing could be said for places like Toronto and cities in the US. Not sure if this helps much but it gives you another option if you fancy a trip to N America. Rich

you should expect to see about 15% off the asking price.

You'll never see 10% discount on a stainless sub date unless very very lucky, let alone 15%. If you're hell bent on a new one then interest free credit is the option to go for. The thing about Rolex is that they're pretty bullet proof and so a second hand one is always a good option.
