Hi there,

the wiper motor on my VX220 NA has seized up according to Whitmores Vauxhall in Chislehurst, and needs to be replaced. Whitmores have quoted my over 600 pounds for parts and labour, the replacement motor costing over 400 pounds - which is making my wallet wince at the thought.

On this site I've seen mention that the wiper motor is one of the common components shared with the Lotus Elise. However, checking at Eliseparts http://www.elisepart...products_id=466 I've seen one for 70 pounds.

Can anyone tell me whether using this motor would work, and how easy it would be to do it myself, as I'm loathe to spend 600 quid if I can avoid it.

Many thanks!

lol thats crazy mate!!!

I'm fairly sure that would fit, if not there will be places to get the right part for much much less...installing yourself is easy also. http://www.speedster.....d Install.pdf

Hope that helps :)

I see the eliseparts site also makes reference to the £400 cost of the starter motor, even from Lotus. If they offer the right part for £70 I'd think it would be an exact fit for the VX too - although I can't confirm that it would definitely work. Worth a punt in my book though. Ben

It depends when your VX was built, I'm affraid, best bet is to remove it and ring the manufacturer of the motor, its what I used to do, they will tell you what its off.

The search page can be very helpful.

Steve Crisp writes about the motor here.

Before you buy and install a new unit (which is a real pain) clean the armature of the existing one. Mine seized too and this worked for me. You can take the cover off the motor while it is in place, just be carefully to catch the nuts!

CLICKY

lol! just figured the date too!!!
