Hmmm interesting point. My n/a has done just under 20,000 miles and recently had a similar problem although the gearbox also started to make a unusual sound when backing off of the power, at any speed. Took it in to Vauxhall who initially said the box might need changing but when it went in for the work the 'engineers at h/o' suggested using automatic gearbox fluid instead. Just had car back 1 day and not fixed... so going back in. May not be related but......?

Hmmm, interesting.. in a bad way ;) When i first had the car i found myself crunching second - i decided that this was only happening when the 'box was cold. I still find 2nd "tight" until she warmed up... ;) fnaar fnarr :D :D

yup... done just over 18k in mine, and gears are quite stiff until things have warmed up a bit.. e.g. getting into 1st at a junction when all cold can make me wish I had a mallet in the car, but a bit of fiddling it sorts itself out... after about 5 mins all fine tho 20k service due in a while, so I'll make sure they look at it... while they also probably replace the windscreen (damn stonechip :/ )

some £800+ for the windscreen.
had mine vandalised and replaced not 2 months ago. and have a big chip in my eye-line already, would you belive it. seriously, i wouldn't replace it unless it was dangerous or illegal...

Add to that, that Turboman said that to replace the windscreen & surround means taking the front clam off - that could cause more problems in itself...

Hmmm, rather a lot of 'that's in that sentance :D

Just an update on mine... Spoke to Vauxhall yesterday and they confirmed that they would now replace my gearbox (thankfully under warranty, although a little worrying having done so few miles). It seems from the responses that a lot of cars suffer the stiff gears... I have had similar problems crunching 2nd gear. This wasn't a problem and reason for the box change... that came out the 'whirring' noise when backing off the power. Still love the car though:->

A little worrying i agree, i have just spoken to Vauxhall about a clutch change as i was beginning to suspect that but after a quote of nearly £700 (it's more for the turbo somewhere near £800!!! gulp) i have decided that it wont be that! Spoke to Chris at regal as he drove it on tues to test it's new re-map (which is bloody brilliant!) and he thinks that i was beating the synchromesh when snatching 2nd. Am gonna try slightly slower changes to let the revs drop a little before slammin 2nd! ps almost binned it in the wet yesterday, fackin slippy round those MK roundabouts!
