chiptuninguk - I'm not sure what you charge for your re-maps, but going by standard superchip prices, £550 is pretty good value, especially bearing in mind that the end-result is a custom map with 40-odd ft/lbs more torque than your drive-in/drive-out re-flash. Granted, the AMD results included an exhaust which by all reports, gives good power, but this is a mod I think most people after a tuning path would go for regardless (for the sound if nothing else!). Surely, you must admit that £550 (+VAT ??) is good value for the gains received, and much better than the 'generic' map that you offer, both in terms of cost and results.

I wasn't involved in the discussion regarding price. I was simply correcting a mistake made by Thorney. I never ever made any such claims regarding value for money. If you read the thread, you'll find it was somebody else! Adam.

Timbo - I'm fortunate - its a Company Car and can reclaim the VAT. With regard to heating issues raised in other posts - I think Thorney has covered this. AMD advised there was a different level of re-mapping but not without the CC. They were extremely comfortable with the results. cheers

Sorry Thorney, but I MUST correct you there. We never ever recommend bolt on chips. We don't fit these ourselves. All our upgrades are remaps via the OBDII port.

Adam.

I missed this

There is very little difference between bolting a new chip on and installation via software via OBD port - simply a different method of delivery.

All of AmD's remaps (on the VX) are delivered via the OBD port.

As regards insurance, the only policy to take is to inform them of any mds you've had done, to have them deny a claim because you didn't tel them is too big a risk.

Footmans James deal we all have (10% discount premium) also allows us to mod the cars and only suffer from increased excess rather than increased premium - not bad IMO.

As far as warranty is concerned the official view is that anything changed won't be covered by Vauxhall, but as this is all covered by a lifetime warranty from AmD and Milltek you're pretty safe.

Thorney, I agree with what you say. However the concept of "bolt-on" chips are many. By bolt on, I thought you meant something that literally bolts onto the ECU, like a tuning box. Most tuners deliver software to the Vauxhall range (and most other makes) through the OBDII port. Adam.

Any ideas what a remap to the NA could give?

Evening All, I am seriously considering the Amd re-map, the Viper induction kit and a Miltek exhaust etc for my turbo. I have read with interest the increases in bhp but what effect on performance does it actually equate to? i.e how are the 0-60, 0-100 and 50-70 times etc improved? Regards, Neil.

What you've got to watch is that it's increased torque which gives you your better 0-60 50-70etc, Just getting max BHP doesn't always give you real world performance, it helps thou B)

A lot of it is to do with how you drive too. The only real way to measure the difference is to test before and after, under similar conditions.

The comments on torque are all spot on - forget bhp, all AmD's maps are written for torque performance, bhp is simply a bi-product. Assuming you'd look at the extra cooling via the charge cooler you'd get the same as mine and in (grantly fairly unscientific circumstances) reckon a 0-60 is around 4secs dead (under 4 easily if I powershifted - which I won't) and certainly under 10secs to 100.

Biggest difference is second gear 'shove' which is now best described as 'violent' - you certainly can't floor the car in the wet; the rears will spin instantly and 3rd/4th gear midrange which now feels more like second gear in a standard car. Basically overtaking is now what this car was built for. B)

Happy to give you a spin in my car anytime if you fancy it. R1 NUR came out at Brunters and I think he was impressed? ;)

Sure was. Even from the passenger seat there was a big difference to my standard VX. And have you any idea how frustrating it is not doing the mods to my car!

c'mon....you're a pilot and earn mega bucks :P Get it AmD'd and then chop it in for a Sprint when they come out next year. You can put yours back to standard and swap the upgrades over to the Sprint - bingo.

Thanks Thorney i'd definately like to take you up on that some time.

Like the thought of 'violent ' shove in second :D

Maybe I'd better ask Santa for some re-inforced pants first though

You are a trouble maker! I am waiting for the Spex and price . Not doing anything 'till then. ;)

And a priority for me is the brakes and there is no point buying them to transfer onto the Sprint. Hold on a minute why am I taking your post seriously!

cheers
