Is the tool needed to remove the VDO a standard car stereo release tool or is it specific for the VDO? Where can i get one?

I think it's standard but I used a piece of coat hanger wire in each of the 4 holes to release the catches - came out easily. Had enough of the flakey paint?

Jase you beat me to it... so sorry a double posting didnt get the removal tool with mine but it is a standard tool. Or you can use a metal coat hanger and cut it down. It will only be a 10 second job. ie cut the two ends off and stick them in the two holes on either side of the unit.

Can't quite remember on the VDO but I know for sure on my Sony that the plastic surround covers up the holes. So yeah, you probably need to take the surround off. Just unclips I think with a knife or screwdriver or something...

You should have bben given the tool to extract the stereo by the dealer when you collected the car. Mine was left in a pack on the passenger seat with the manual etc. BTW it is a standard removal too Paul l

Halfords do the stereo release tool for a few quid. You should see a hole near each corner of the stereo when the face is off.
