Ethanol has more net energy per Litre than Gasoline - 3MJ/L as opposed to 2.92MJ/L.

Based on when the koenigsegg (or however it's spelt) that the Stig crashed was on Top Gear, JC was saying that it puts out 'x' bhp in the US on thier sh*te 89RON fuel, 'y' bhp here on our fuel, and 'z' bhp if you run it on biofuel - where 'z' was considerably more than 'x' and 'y' - something like 900bhp IIRC!

Also, this includes algebra, so it's scientific fact :P

Ethanol produces more power as compared to petrol it has far higher octane rating, allowin the timing the engine to be altered to produce a higher in cylinder perssures and a higher BMEP torque. The draw back to this is that to maintain the correct mix of air and fuel the AFR is around 9-11 where as petrol is 12-14 meaning you also get alot less MPG. Ethanol is also corrosive to many of the seal used in engines in high concentrations.

I would not spend money in Tesco because I do not agree with their ethics.

Care to expand on this?

No not really as this is a public forum and I don't want to get sued!!!

I work in the industry and know how they operate. Nuff said!!

Is thorny going to re-test the fuels as V-Power is 99ron like tesco now where as optimax was 97-98ron? All the fuels are made pretty much the same way but when they are put into the tankers different agents are added depending on where they are being sold ie, tesco, esso, shell, asda etc etc. I may be wrong here but isn't it the MON number that has more relevence on the performance. MON being the motor octane number as apposed to the RON (random octane number).

I seriously doubt cheap goods is causing the country to fall on its arse.... its the immigration, schools, NHS, roads, dole scum... essentially the Govt for letting it happens fault, not really tescos fault now is it lol. Would love a fully fledged price war to start so prices drop even more to allow more money to be spent on my car :D

It's so easy to blame the government rather than ourselves isn't it :P

If we actually analysed it, we would probably find that the country IS going down the pan due to us all being a load of tight, cheap and tacky freeloaders :D

Immigration - its a plus since cheap 'foreign' labour should make our manufacturing and services more price competitive than those in the Far East.

Schools - a lack of vocational training in engineering etc. and apprenticeships because there are no manufacturing jobs for the kids to go into when qualified.

NHS - having to go into hospital is an effect, not a cause.

Roads - which degenerate mainly due to wear and tear from HGVs. There's far too much freight transport by road in this country IMO, mainly due to lorries coming across from outside the UK carrying goods that we could have made/grown here.

Dole scum - they're dole scum either because i) they've been made unemployed, or ii) have no manufacturing jobs to go into.

Therefore, the answer is more manufacturing jobs. This should deal with at least four of the five problems you mention thumbsup

How to achieve this? Perhaps a form of carbon tax which recognises the environmental cost of having your stuff manufactured halfway across the world. If such a tax made imports prohibitive, very soon businesses (UK and overseas) would start localising their operations again. Therefore no cheap and nasty Chinese DVD players from Tesco :P

Well I dont know about anyone else but I shop in Tesco as its close by and I don't have a clues how much stuff costs. i cant say I ever look at the price of food...i just chuck it in the trolly and get out a soon as poss.

I would be happy to pay 1, 20, 30 pence extra on items of food it if knew that Tesco would pass that extra money on to their suppliers instead of fleecing them all to make more money for themselves to continue their world domination efforts. I shopped in Waitrose the other week and I was taken aback on how much more pleasant/intelligent/less pikey the clientèle were!

On another point...and I await flaming...wouldn't it be interesting if TMS found out that Tesco wasn't the best fuel after putting all those Tesco 99 stickers on their cars

I think Slind means the sods that NEVER get off their asses and get a job - not people made redundant through no fault of their own, or people in manufacturing despairing at the jobs drying up due to automation etc.

These are the same people that resent others doing ok for themselves, and explains the jealous looks I get from the various Pikey types round my way when I drive past. The ethos of such people (in my experience) is to expect all the good things in life to come to them, rather than expecting to work and reap the rewards.

I have a League of Gentlemen "Dole Scum" Job centre T-shirt somewhere...
