Done a search on this, i know someone got it done through a dealer, but has anyone actually done it themselves? Did they buy vxt central locking from scrap yard or shell out for the bits from vauxhall? Do Thorney fit them? Just wondered cos struggling to open the door whilst carrying bags etc is a nightmare, especially at night on my own in dodgy places! thumbsdown

There is nothing to steal from inside it so why bother locking. Just set the alarm?

I may leave a few bits in the boot but only a few CD's in the car itself. I would rather someone open the door and nick a CD than smash the windows, bugger the locks or slash the roof.

There are also mindless vandals who will p*ss in your car or leave the doors open so the leather seats get ruined. Equally you may have a stereo worth more than £20. I take the face off my stereo but mindless idiots still steal the things. If a stereo is ripped out, then if you're unlucky you get loom damage as well as scratches all over the ally dash front - expensive to repair. I bought one with a hardtop mainly for the security aspect... didn't realise you could get central locking until Rob showed me his. :( So yeah, I'd be interested in how much it costs / feasibility of retro-fitting central locking as well. I have the standard-fit immobiliser / alarm (triangular keyfob) - this presumably interfaces with the central locking relay and operates two solenoids? Whichever way, adding extra stuff to the doors on a VX sounds like a damn fiddly job, and not one I'd have a go at myself... but if anyone out there is doing a retro-fit central locking job for reasonable money then I'll have one! :)

I had remote central locking fitted by my local VX dealer (Greenhous Hanley Stoke on Trent) to my 02 NA in September 2005. It cost £370 and took them 3 or 4 days as I recall. It works off the original alarm fob button. It is a front clam and doors (to drill the holes for the motor cables) off job.
It works very well and I've had no problems up to now.
I met their sales rep (he drives a yellow turbo) a week or so later at a local petrol station and he told me that they pulled his turbo apart to see exactly how to do my central locking.

This is what was on the invoice

Vauxhall VX220 None Turbo
Remove dash, both doors & front of vehicle (clam)
Modify & adapt front door locks into central locking,
Drill doors to accept wiring,
Fit locking motors & E/C/U
Rebuild vehicle.
Menu price Including VAT £369.89
