Have removed the rear wheel of my N/A vx. Have took out the pin in the caliper. Have took out the 17 mm bolt and i believe the caliper is then supposed to swing downwards but it wont. Its stuck and I aint even sure how its supposed to swing down from where the long bolt was. Any help :(

A block of wood and a hammer is whats required. It will budge with enough force. thumbsup Are you referring to the guide posted on here. Shows you which was the caliper swings down.

The bolt you removed runs through a spacer. Whenthe bolt has been removed, the spacer is oftern corroded ontothe calliper, which prevents the calliper moving. Tap the spacer gently. If tat does not work twist it slightly with some Stilsons to break the seal.

Thanks for all those tips. Ive had to give up due to rain outside at moment. Ill give it a try in the morning. I followed the guide on here and once the bolt was out the caliper just wouldn't move.Where the bolt comes out from the car side i just couldn't swing the caliper. Ill try tapping it. Along where the bolt goes there are\ two rubber parts one next to where the bolt comes out and one on the other side (I.E. the wheel side). I presume its the wheel side part that needs hitting.

Ive just done my rear pads and had the same problem. I found that if you remove the lower caliper bolt (it has an allen key head) and tap out the outer pad (knock it down towards centre of disc then back towards rear off the car) the caliper will be free to move. 1st caliper took me 15 Min's to change pads but did the second in 5 Min's once i had it worked out! I always leave the caliper alone. Just do this: - Tap out retaining pin (catch the spring!) - Tap outer pad towards hub and then down until it falls out. - Undo brake disc bolt - Lift brake disc off - Remove inner pad - Screw back brake piston Refit is the opposite. Bye, Arno.

I added this picture to the guide to clarify:

Basically, part A fits inside a recess in part B. To move the caliper you need to seperate the two parts. They are often corroded together so require 'persuasion'. My solution was to tap on the opposite end of the barrel of part A with a hammer and wooden block although I understand general tapping and wiggling also does the trick.
