On sunday i couldnt help myself but aska couple of shops if they had the Hd upgrade in stock (and a Wii jsut incase lol)
Found one to have the HD drive, but its a more recent one with no king kong, no matter the film looked pants anyway lol.
I picked up Swordfish as i already have that on normal DVD for comparrison via the upscaler.
First thoughts on the looks of the unit.... they could have done a little better by making the drive face white like the 360 is rather than the long edge. The whole thing looks like a mini 360 but rotated 90 degrees.
after getting my lounge assembled with the tv etc i installed the HD software on the Xbox and away we go.
the dash now has a split eject button on it one for Hd one for normal.
The HD drive is a little noisy when running but not that intrusive imho.
mild draw back is the eject button on the remote only operates the main tray not the hd one but meh.
Started to watch the film. WOW, the clarity of the explosion is sooo much better than with even the upscaled version (which initially made me moist lol). plus the extra joy of having my surround rears working for the first time in 6 months helped.
all in its not the prettiest HD solution in the world, but its certainly good value imho.
anyone else got one yet?

Yeah, I bought one last week. Works really well. Only HD DVD I have is Batman Begins. It really is a bargain for £120.

We got one last week & not had time to get an HD disc yet. I tried it with a normal DVD and it seemed a lot quieter than the XBox does when playing a disc. That's a bonus for us as we use the XBox as the DVD player.

You can open the HD tray if there is no disc in, its just when there is a disc that it won't open. Thing is, if you want to remove the disc then you have to go to the drive anyway to take it out, so pressing the button while you are there isn't too much of a bind.
I'm thinking of ordering a disc from the states, as I understand HD is currently region free ?
