Hi chaps just curious... Whats the difference between stage 1 and stage 2 remap in terns of power/torque and cost. Do botyh require new exhaust? Will it affect manufacturers warrenty? Cheers Scotty

stage one is just a remap giving around 220bhp, stage 2 is a exhaust and remap giving around 235-240bhp. The milltek was an optional extra on the VXR220 so no problems with warrenty there, the remap will prob not be covered but then again the remap will be covered by the tuning companys warrenty thumbsup

I had a stage 1 from TMS on my turbo and the dyno showed 10% more power. The reality translated onto the road was just that, accellerating from the same point on a stretch of tarmac got me to 110mph at a specific point compared to 100mph prior. If you get it done at TMS as far as I know it is all covered under a warranty so no worries there. I am getting very tempted, partly for the noise as the stock exhaust note doesn't do the VX justice, it should sound much sportier to match it's performance.

Scotty

I have just had the stage 1 done at TMS on Friday, circa £500, and is backed up by a full warranty to match the OEM's warranty. I also have a milltek back box fitted. (this alone allowed my turbo to spin up quicker and definitley improved power delivery, oh and it sounds great. thumbsup

The reality translated onto the road was just that, accellerating from the same point on a stretch of tarmac got me to 110mph at a specific point compared to 100mph prior.

I agree with DW that it does give more speed and acceleration, however IMHO it also has far more subtle benefits as well. My VXT is my daily commute (100 mile round trip), and the car now is a far more relaxed cruiser. You can quite happily stay in top gear now at motorway speeds (70 ish???...), and when there is a gap push your foot down, and without hesitancy the car just takes off, right into triple figures (oops). However, that aside it makes it very useable and smooth, as the torque delivery is very much improved. ie it just pulls like a train from low down and keeps on going and going....
Also when you do want to go through the gears the acceleration and pull is superb and smooth, with the "flat spots" virtually eliminated, so as DW says you do make faster progress, but for me it's the way it is improved that is the big seller.
Also I had a full geo set up done which is fantastic :D
Hope that helps, but I would definitley recommend a stage one re-map of some description, I can however only comment on my own findings from TMS which are :P :P :P

I had a Stage 2 done a couple of weeks ago, and one of the most noticeable improvements I've found is that the engine runs far far smoother from cold. Before, I always found it lumpy and jerky for the 1st mile or so. Now it's great, there's no jerking at all, i.e. you can move your foot off the accelerator without nearly going through the windscreen! Oh yeah - as mentioned above it now goes like stink, and sounds great! :jump:

So stage 1 is around £500. How much is a stage 2. Can remap be carried out via mail order-send ECU to Thorney? Cheers for replies-interesting stuff.

Had a Stage 1 done by Thorney too; highly recommend. Managed to convince my g/f it was a "safety issue" to remove the "dangerous flatspot". :D

Mine made 208 before, and 213 after, so 5bhp extra, which is 2.5% increase , but at another dyno dynamics independent it made even less 202bhp. Don't let me put you off, many others are quite pleased with theirs.

PM sent. Sorry, I wasn't aware there were any issues and of course we can look into it to get it resolved, of course there is no charge for this. Its sometimes hard to associate peoples real names with forum names so I'm afraid I don't know how to call you.

Still working on mail order, we 're still short staffed and struggling to keep up until new office staff arrive.

What decibels does a stage 2 give? i.e. will you get on all tracks? I think, if you already have a stage 1 at TMS they don't recharge you for the remap part to stage 2 (which sounds pretty fair and good). thumbsup Also, what kind of difference do you feel in the car when going from a stage 1 to a stage 2?

Bump this thread if you do get one - I only went for a Stage I first time so as to change nothing physically on the car, but have always fancied a louder exhaust..

Here is a good thread which shows the power curves at Standard tune, Stg1 and Stg2. Picture says a thousand words and all that
