anyone know of any cameras that flash oncoming traffic from opposite side of the road? Happened on A523 Ashbourne - Leek road yesterday! Looked like a Gatso.

Was it a Gatso... or was it actually a Truvelo? Truvelo are forward facing cameras, that DO flash oncoming traffic, but they use a purple filter so as not to dazzle drivers. What were the lines on the road like? ladder like (a long row of 20 or so dashes) or 3 or 4 lines than run the full width of the carriage way?

From memory - ladder like. I am pretty sure it was not Truvelo. Flash was 2 "silver" variety!

I had this with a camera in Maidstone. Lines are on both sides of the road to get cars that try and change lanes to avoid the markers. I got flashed but nothing came through as I was travelling in the wrong direction for the camera. thumbsup

I know of many gatso's round here that flash when you're going towards them. All perfectly harmless. I believe it's a cheap trick to fool us all in to thinking we've been caught - like the way they maint the marker lines on both sides of the road.

Ye gatsos pick up speeding if your driving towards one fast enough and will flash, but you will not be done (taxi drivers around by me seem to always be setting them off at night)

45mph ( in 30 zone)set off my local one if going towards it over central white lines. no but you sh!t yourself more cause you think your being kidnapped by aliens!!!

Just deny driving the car, worse they can do is take you to court and give you the fine plus small court costs. be happy that you know its cost them more in court/administration costs. and you never know they may not get back to you, ive got off loads by just replying asking for a photo, they've sent a photo and ive replied saying i dont know who that could be*.

*only good if you have several people that drive your car.

Do truvelo's flash? If so, do they flash twice? Thought gatso's flash twice to measure distance vs markers to calculate speed, and truvelo's take oncoming pictures only to catch the drivers face, to stop that whole 'oi student, will pay you 3 grand to say you were driving my car and take the points' thing. (based on sumat heard down the pub i'm afraid) i've been flashed by oncoming gatso's a few times - whilst being the only car on the road... nowt ever turned up.. Also been flashed by gatso's the 'right way' whilst doing under the speed limit  I've heard the best way to understand speed camera's is to put a burning tyre around them, and then go the pub. thumbsup

Do you mean theone in Waterhouses just outside the Police House. If so you're OK as it has always flashed like that. I used to have fun setting it off :P

Front facing ones are about. I know of two locations - Bushey Arches near Watford and just as you head out of Dunstable.

Ricardo - that's the one. However watch out for the one at the other end of the village especially as you come from the Ashbourne direction. There are 18 of them on the road from Ashbourne through to Rushton Spencer. Most are not often used but some are live. There are a number of either side cameras around but the lines are on both sides of the road. There's also one on the A6 in Stockport that rotates through 180 depending on the time of day.
