I happened to stumble across a window tinting company today, and as I was going to the place next door thought I'd get a quick quote, He had a good look and came to the conclusion it would have to be done from the outside due to very limited access inside, He said that he couldn't give his normal lifetime warranty as he wouldn't normally apply it to the outside of the glass ..So, for those who have it applied to the outside, how has it lasted? has it peeled or faded anywhere, or has it stood the test of time? He seemed to know what he is doing - mainly works for dealerships, and has been in the business for over 15 years :) Best part was the price - £30! I thought it would be at least twice that for some reason - he even said he'd do my Astra sporthatch rear and back side windows for £110 all in - sounds like a bargain thumbsup

Send NOBLE a PM mate, he tinted his N/A. When i drove it the tints looked done from the inside, i could be wrong though. :)

thumbsup It's going to be easier for him to apply the film on the outside (is what i think he means ;) ) Using the age old equation of 'time=money' offer him twice the price to apply it internally and i'm sure he'll oblige :D

If it is too dark it can invalidate the insurance so get that checked before you do it. We had all the rear windows of our Cayenne done to help the babies stay out of the sun (instead of sun blinds) and they have lasted very well indeed over the last 3 years. Of course we did not do it ourselves but there is a place right next to Porsche Guildford that will do any car. They also do very dark tints (for VIPs) but as I say you should check with your insurance co first.

iirc you can legally do the rear windows and rear side windows to whatever tint you want its the front 3 (windscreen, and both front doors) that have to let 70% of light through, i.e. you can have a 30% tint. alot of manufacturers usually put like a 7-10% tint on them anyway but think the vx is non-tinted.

I'm going for a 20%(ish) tint, so nothing too drastic, but should stop the glare of headlights through the back when I have a van / 4x4 up my rear He wouls have preferred to do it from the inside, but I know that even if you remove the covers from the 'pointless not quite head rest thingies' there are still steel plates hanging down from the roll bar that will hinder access to the screen I've had a search around and quite a few people have had it applied to the outside, couldn't find any that had had it done on the inside - I was just wondering how long / well they have found it lasted as there aren't any follow ups

Mine is onthe outside 15 months now, all seems good still and no marking or damage to report. Made a massive difference to night driving, only issue to report is heavy tint i went for pretty dark means get starter button reflection in rear view mirror. I will be solving that with a all black one at some point though so wont last for long,

Good stuff - so it stays intact thumbsup Cheers for the help :) As I said, I'm only going for a subtle look, just to dim down the glare a bit, Think I'll end up doing the Astra now too tho

cheeky twat XXX, but true

Mandarin I have had both cars tinted. Cost was around £125 for the 3 bits of glass. The 2 side windows should be done on the inside as usual and will be warrentied for 3-5 years. The rear (plastic) glass has to be done from the outside and can not be covered with warrenty. I have never had any problems with the rear glass.

Just take the fitters advice and dont roll down the windows for a week while they dry and set. The rubber in the corners of the windows near the wing mirrors has a habbit of finding loose edges that need time to set and dry out.

Not sure how dark you want them but I will say is this; The car is naturally dark inside the cabin so even the lightest tints look darker. Also when you go pick it up, the chances are that the windows will look streaky and not that dark. Give them time to dry and they become clear of streaks and darker.

Here are some photos... The NA is 50% darker tint than my VXT

I prefer the VXT tint as i got 35% and its a lot more subtle
