I've decided to take the Armourfend just infront fo the rear wheel arches off as I really can't see any stone chips effecting that area and the current armourfend has started getting a nasty yellow tinge to it. Is it easy to remove or should I have it done proffesionally? I remove the sun strip the previous owner had fitted but the hairdryer trick actually made it worse, leaving more of the glue on the windscreen.. Cheers

I can't help with the how to remove it question, but would not recommend leaving that area unprotected as it will get chipped pretty quickly! On my previous car (Leon Cupra R), that area got chipped quite badly and I reckon that's why the VX comes with that area protected as standard.

You can get armourfend pieces for that area, or get the original Vauxhall parts for about £7 a side I believe.

If it's yellowing, may be best to remove and replace with the OEM or other parts to prevent chipping!

I think you may need to take a hair dryer or heat gun ( Be carefull ) to it to soften it up a bit I don't have any paint protection on my car I'm just gonna risk it and have it blown over every now and then

I recon the Leon would be more prone to chipping though as it's FWD and would throw up more stones from the front wheel. The Armourfend on the front is obviously useful and I can see all the stone chips that would have been there had it not been fitted. The stuff on the sides doesn't have a single scratch on it though....

Yep, just use a hair dryer, soften up the protective tape and peel it back..the original was termed helicopter tape (designed to protect the rotors of helicopters from sand abrasion). But this yellowed after a period time. Armourfend (3m product) is much more UV stable and does not yellow.

That's because it's reinforced tape, designed to protect from chips, and therefore not get damaged when stones hit it! thumbsup

hmmm well the front stuff has scratches on it... maybe I'll replace it with some armourfend stuff then, where's a good place to get it fitted?

Anyone here removed theres, has the area been chipped badly since removal?

Cheers

WD40 hey.... think I'll give that a go when I get home :D

Has anyone removed theirs completely and can comment on how many stone chips they've picked it?

Joe turbo had his removed by amourfend themselves (i think). The car was painted 6 weeks previous, but the recommeded hardening time is 2 weeks so there should have been no problem. They took chunks of paint off :9mm: when they did it so be VERY VERY careful.

it was paintshield, not armourfend but there pretty much the same thing. I have heald off posting any real details on the issue for now. At the moment paintshield are saying its due to the bodyshop not prepping the car correctly and that the paint would of come off on its own over time. The bodyshop says its down to paintshield putting the film on to early after it was painted then having to take it off again (due to not fitting correctly) :( Im waiting for a report from both companies then see where it goes from there. Be carefull with the "helitape" near the rear wheel arch as they have been known to pull the paint off when removing :(
