hi everyone i have only just joined this site, the main reason is to get some information from people who know about these cars. Im looking at a VX220 to buy, its a 2001 model but unfortunately its a cat D. Reason im trying to get a crash repaired vehicle is because of the cheaper price. The question i have got is what would you pay for a vx220 a 2001 2.2 model and a Cat d, fully repaired, a number of years ago. Could somebody please give me a rough idea of what to pay as i dont want to pay over the odds. thanks

Depending on condition and/or if there was any chassis damage, but assuming it was just repaired clams etc, i would pay around £8.5/9k

But any chassis damage IMO walk away!

Watch the two videos on This Thread if you havent already, it will give lots of useful info if you are after a cat D.

(The actual car featured in this program is also for sale)

Surely if it had chassis damage it would be more than a cat D write off? (ie cat C) I'd snap up any cat D as long as the repairs were done properly and were well documented. thumbsup

Thanks for that, i will have a look at the video now. I presume as the car was repaired a number of years ago, and used since that there is and was no chasie damage. I just wanted a idea of what to offer or expect to pay, as ive looked around in things like the autrotrader and on ebay and there seems to be big diffrances in prices for similar cars, spec, age. Nope its not in pentre cars, i havent acctualy viewed the car yet and i wont be able to until the weekend because of my work, so if it doesnt sell i will go to see it then. How much is the one in pentre cars going for? if you dont mind me asking.

Up for £10,000 but it's been there for ages so rumour has it that he'd take £8,500 for it. thumbsup

I bought a cat d vehicle few months back and it has been said that it is one of the best examples around.. I would buy another no problem as long as supporting info on repair is available... 2000/2001 I reckon 8500-9000 would be reasonable as long as in good condition..

This is what i mean parkers car guide says 7-8500, you lot think 8500-9500, then i look in the autrader and theres one in there for 10k. Thats a big diffrance 7 - 10k, it seems to be personal opinion and if you have the cash to flash, there doesnt seem to be any type of price guide line i can go by, which was what i was looking for. I would be devistated if i paid 10k for one and the next month spotted one for 7k, i would genuinely cry haha Im making myself sound tight here, but im not just worried about buying a rather specialist car and been basicly ripped off

you can pick up very good example n/as for 10k with 2002 plate and under 40k mileage, dont pay that for a cat c or d imo, 8 seems more like it.

I think Rik was/is selling his CAT C repaired for around £7000 which was a bargain!!

Parkers car guide is not even worth looking at with regards to VX's as they are such a specialist car, prices are way off!

If you dont mind high milage - 77k (Perfectly ok with a N/A VX) then will is selling his 2001 Black N/A that has been well looked after and documented on the forum, i think he is asking around 9k for it. thumbsup

Did you watch the vids?

the car is for sale HERE and owned by forum members! Its been for sale for a while so you could get a good deal!

mine went for £8000 about a month ago. It was cat C not D. Had it on PH for £7,800 but the buyer wanted both soft tops and was willing to pay more. I paid £8,800 about a year ago, so it was about spot on when you consider depreciation.... Wether they are classed as D or C seems totally random.. probably down to the person/garage who inspects them... so I'd imagine about the same price for a D, maybe 100-200 more?

I seen this one on ebay 200137221103. I put a bid in and won, im not a bit unsure about it as i havent even viewed the car (i did ask the guy to cancel my bid before the auction ended as i didnt like the bid that went in below mine a calcalated bid of 7433, which nocked the winning bid upto 7500, (sure it was upbiding as it was a strange price for a genuine person to place)).

Now im unsure what to do, it could be a total banger, or it could be great.

Also what do you people think of it? anyone got any history on it? is it worth it?

Finaly, what are these cars like for holding there value? a year down the line for example?

not a bad price but u should have test driven before bidding! it coud be a dog and it doesnt have the original wheels on it so that may be suspect, im sure we have seen that car before but for 7.500 its not bad even for a cat.d prices have stated to drop a fair bit in the last few years, but they dont loose too much per year maybe 700-900quid, have seen plenty of 2000 examples on y reg and 01 reg go for around 8 grand 2002 n/as go for average 10k and later ones a bit more depending on mileage, when u start talking 14k u can get a 2003/4 n/a or turbo with under 50k on the speedo so its down to personal choice there but with this summer ending soon expect to pay around 13k for older turbos and up to 19k for 2006 plates with under 10000 on the speedo.. oh and if u got 20k to spend theres a few limited edition vxrs for sale, just dont buy number 16 lol

I asked a few questions about it and i just got carried away and placed a bid (i didnt acctualy think i would win), the owner says its had a new front and wing (wing?? i thought it was a clam and thats it) he doesnt think the suspension was replaced, and i never asked about the wheels.

To be totaly honest i dont know what to do, if i go down im not going to give him the money and drive off i would want a look at it and test drive first, and if it felt or looked like a dog i wouldnt pay, i would accept the bad feedback (although i did ask for my bid to be retracted before the auction ended).

But i havent looked into vx,s enough to no what to look for or anything i have just kind of jumped on it. I love the cars though my old mate had a lighning yellow one with the black wheels and hardtop etc, but he wrote it off, another one bites the dust.

As your all owners and know a bit about these cars, is the one i have won worth £7500, in your opinions?

It's the lowest price i've seen one go for. Hard to say what it's worth without giving the car a good going over. Sorry. Edit to say: The Ad says mint condition - if that is the case then you've got a real bargin. If not, then it's not as described and your bid is not binding. Go and check it out.

It looks like a bargin at that price mate even if it you find its a little untidy around the edges when you go to view it. There are enough members in the north west area who would be willing to go and view it with you im sure. Its up on trader for 10K as well so you got it for a good price on that reflection.
Its around 32 miles away from me so even if no body closer is willing to go look with you then give me a shout and i'll come along and have a look over it with you. chinky chinky
