Hi all, When I returned from Palmersport this year, my sister told me how much she'd like to take a car round a track. After following her from Northampton to Lincoln recently, I know she's up for it! :) Anyway, I'm thinking about buying her a track day package for Christmas or Birthday. I've seen the packages available on the high street, but was wondering if you guys could recommend something to me please? You know the sort of thing, half a day tuition then an afternoon on track. Thanks! :) :groupjump:

The Red Letter, etc "Experience" days on offer in the High Street are all very well but you'd probably get better value by contacting the tracks direct. In particular, I'm sure Palmersport would be happy to take your Crimbo money! James

Yeah, I was wondering that - I would rather go direct, but wondered if anyone has done something similar? Palmersport - great idea! I'll go out, buy myself a new VX and bargain for TWO Palmersport days! :)

cheers

Just had a look at < Palmersport's Motorsport Sensation >.

Unfortunately the site doesn't give any idea of cost, but it does say that individuals can attend on shared days. Might be worth contacting Jan ...

By the way, some time ago my wife got me a day at Silverstone and it was great fun.

We accept red letter days vouchers at the gliding club. They charge 50 quid for one flight, we charge 32 which includes 90 days club membership and the opprtunity to fly again for only £15 a go. They also do a two day course - for the same money you can have a week course of you come to us directly.

I needent say more - go straight to the trackday company and forget about red letter days e.t.c.

Having said that, these track driving packages aren't cheap. I looked far and wide after doing the Palmersport day but couldn't turn anything up for less than £200. Octagon Motorsports do a 'Race School' for prices just over £250 which looks wuite good and there's a selection of tracks to choose from.
I think your best bet is to go for a normal trackday from the usual favourites likewww.bookatrack.com and www.easytrack.co.uk They normally have tuition available on the day and you'll get to see a whole load of cars from family saloons to trackday specials. I've even had a free ride in a two seat radical at Brands from a fellow driver.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to look into it in more detail in the new year and aim to get something booked in time for her Birthday in February. Figured that it would be a good idea to aim for next summer. I may go along as well - could be fun deciding who gets the keys to the VX on the way home! :) For Christmas, my sister will have to make do with Clarins, Laura Ashley and M&S type pressies! :)

my elder daughter wants to do the same... for me there is only one place to go, and that's Palmersport, as there are no rev limits and instructors really push you along.... but unless corporate event then the Motorsport Sensation is far to expensive (but worth every last penny).... But you can do a Caterham session by itself - this is a full afternoon with lots of driving time (evidently) - some are limited to 10-20 laps only :( cost per person is £200 all in.... Mick
