As the title suggests I went to Plans 10 days ago for Geo/Nitrons and decided to have the larger AP discs fitted. They are 295mm, aluminium bells for VX and the rotors can be changed when needed. I am just about completing their 200 miles bed-in but I can already tell you there is a big difference from OEM. I have been running Pagid R42 with the OEM discs for 3-4 months and I felt a bit disappointed with the feedback from the brakes although stopping was very good. With the same pagid pads and the new AP discs it's a completely different story you can feel the braking progression massively better. The setup is a joy and is very finely controllable.

Anyway here are few piccies and a shameless plug for Plans who yet again have exceeded my expectations

And finally the reference for the AP discs

Oh and finally price: 2x£90 for the bells and 2x£140 for the rotors + £12 miscellaneous to move the standard caliper to accomodate the 288 to 295 mm diameter increase. Sounds pricy but I suspect I have 75% of the benefits of a bigger 4-pot system at a third of the price (might as well be contentious :) )

They do look very tasty. You're VERY trusting in human-nature - where's your locking wheel-nut?

So you've only put them on the front? Has that upset the front/rear brake balance at all? Look excellent though thumbsup

Are these the *new* AP discs with the M type material construction? Should have a M suffix

only upfront, really doesn't upset the balance at all, as I said earlier they're barely larger (295 vs 288), retain the same calipers etc. Feel is truly massively improved and I suspect that fade resistance will also be loads better because of the alloy bell design, the slightly wider airgap than standard 9.4mm vs 9mm. They are also 2 kilos lighter than the OEMs - each - so with My superleggeras the front now feels spot-on. yes the vanes go on the right way and the discs are marked Right and Left inherent benefit of buying quality AP kit I guess :) re the superleggeras, it's been a labour of love type-thing throughout the summer. Got two new rears in 8x17 from a guy in Germany and four 7x16 fronts from a guy in Italy (so I have 2 spare fronts if I damage them) Before you ask, they're 5x112 - Superleggeras were never made in 5x110. So I am using proper OZ PCD adjuster bolts actually manufactured by SCC in Germany. The wheels are very very light as the name suggest (only marginally heavier than the Plans Mag wheels I saw at Plans), but I will not bore you with the details, it's been done many times before me by Ricky172, and quite a few more people on this site - search for "OZ superleggera" re the disc rotors, references are CP5000 510 CG8tt and 511 CG8TT (right then left) 295x25 R12B x 177.8 D44

i had superleggeras on my first car as they are the lightest wheels around without going magnesium silly money. i always thought they were made of cheese but i went up a slight kerb at 50mph and it didnt even buckle them or anything :) was shocked to see them on a VX, because A) theyve been replaced by the aweful looking ultraleggera and B ) wasnt aware they came in the correct PCD/offset, but that explains it. have you got OZ spacers too? (best quality spacers ive ever seen!)

the super L's are rated 650 Kg a side, i.e more than twice the strength of the OEM wheels

However given the hassle I went through to find them, I have no intention of testing their resistance - I keep my eyes peeled for minor holes on the road surface, let alone kerbs etc - sad I know :D

re spacers, the rears are ET35 so absoolutely spot on no spacers.

The fronts are ET 35 too and after several configurations and debate with Plans we're running 5mm front spacers and everything is absolutely spot on at full lock etc. Graham advised against going 10mm to maintain turn-in etc (makes me luagh some of the euro-looks running 20mm spacers either side..)

The wheels are 65.1mm internal diameter so are a perfect fit for the VX
