Hi everyone,

Last weekend I fitted my new iPod headunit and some new speakers as well whilst I was at it.

The headunit is obviously an Alpine jobbie (IDA-X001) and the speakers are matching Type S arrangements (SPS-17C2)

Sound quality is much improved and as someone who likes their beats a very worthwhile upgrade.

The cable for the iPod runs down through the dash and then along inside that tunnel thing. As you can see, I'm not just limited to iPod either, you can plug memory sticks and other USB MP3 players into it as well :D
The cradle is something I got my brother to knock me up at college and is a perfect fit. I didnt want to splash out on a proper cradle cus they're really bulky and just wanted something nice and simple that doesn't catch the eye.

Comments welcome

Al

Justin - Nah, it's allready pretty scratched as it is and I'm not really interested how it looks, so long as it works Mandarin - It's a £100 upgrade so I think I'd just prefer to get a headset instead, never really on my phone anyway

True, but a part of the face comes off, leaving the screen bit on the right. Also the bit that comes off is a bit on the bulky side.

This headunit doesnt play CD's does it? Was thinking about upgrading to this but now not sure. Bifta, is scrolling through the Ipod menus much easier compared to the other Alpine units? I would like to keep the option of playing CDs and this was £70 more than the unit I was looking at.

rsq - Mate if you've got an iPod I'd definetley get it, no it doesn't play CDs but you can connect a changer into it if you could find room in the VX for one lol Yeah the scrolling is much better, I had an older Alpine 'Full Speed' unit in my old car and was dissappointed as you couldn't quickly navigate through the menus and it took forever to find specific songs or even albumns. However with this one it has been much improved, so simple to use as well, I definetley reccommend it.

I really don't know, it's not listed on the compatible iPods list but if it can recognize MP3 players via the USB connection then maybe. Whereabouts you based, if local you're more than welcome to come and try it out in mine.
