Has anyone tried these bulbs? Autoexpress gave them a better rating that the Philips ones:

Also is it a H7 fitting? (Im a bit away from my user manual at the moment.)

Apologies if this has been covered b4 - while i remember a thread on it I cant seem to find it using the search engine.

ThanX

Dave

I replaced mine with the Ring Xenon H1's. The difference is non-existent, in fact I think the existing bulbs are identical despite Ring's claims of being 30% brighter. Could be due to the projector beam lenses used in the lamps, the beam cutoff is quite sharp. I'm pretty sure that H7 is main and H1 is dipped but I don't recall any discussion about the Osram bulbs.

In a recent bulb test, many "performance" bulbs were shown to be no better than standard. We stock the Philips Vision Plus which seem to be one of the best on the market, and a very good price too.

I took the bull by the horns this weekend and decided to both fix my broken headlight and replace the dipped beam with the Osram Silver Star. I have to say that the difference to the standard bulbs is amazing. I've noticed the reflection on road signs at a much greater distance than before (as much as twice the distance) My Scooby owning mate bought some at the same time and he is saying the same (he had the Philips +30% bulbs before). powerbulbs.com got the bulbs delivered free next day delivery. Very happy :)

Good sounds like its time for me to take the plunge aswell - I spoke to a guy over the weekend who fitted them on a Golf and said much the same thing as you Ian. Is it Definitely a H1 fitting?

Yep it's H1 for dipped beam and H7 full beam.

I assume these bulbs are the standard wattage, just more efficient? I wouldn't want to change and then have expensive melty headlight death  Ben

They are 55W bulbs so no problem.

Have aquired and fitted the Osrams. Initial impressions are that the light is much whiter, the light seems to spread further to the left than it used to, signs reflect from a whole bunch further away, main beam is pretty sweet, I think i've not put the front right lamp unit in straight as I'm sure it projects lower than it was before.

Seems pretty good for £50. They sent me some free sidelight bulbs but w5w instead of t4w, now i've seen them i'm wondering if i should get them too for the complete look. >link<

The instructions in my handbook about changing the front bulbs was wrong too. The handbook suggest the entire back section of the lamp unit detaches but mine was bonded on and the bulbs were accessed through removable rubber caps instead.

For the H7 bulbs I'm now using the Ring high power 80w Sportzblue. Not legal but it's only for the main beam and to honest they don't look like 80w. They are nearly as good as the missus' Audi TT now (but not quite B) ) BTW. These were only £15 from a regular trader on eBay.

Ben, I'm slightly confused (a fairly permanent state for me I agree).

Did you get Osram's or Philips? The link you provided is for Philips...

I ordered (and got) H1 and H7 Osrams but they threw in for free some bulbs to replace my sidelights. What they gave me were Philips w5w type bulbs. I quite liked the idea so am considering getting some replacement sidelight bulbs in the correct size (t4w) and only philips do those (from that site).
