Anyone got any opinions on whether it is better to go for the VGA or component connections for an HD tv? Also (for either) is there much value in getting the offcial items over a third party item?

a high quality component cable is best

realisticaly there isnt much difference between the makes but a microsoft one is whats recomended

If you want the 360 to upscale DVD's, I understand you need to have the VGA cable.

NO NO NO

ok to take a HD signal you need one of the following

HDMI
Component
VGA

I have listed them from best to worst.

the line then goes

SCART
Composite
RF (ariel lead)

i use a microsoft VGA cable it upscales DVD's to the resolution you set it at which is good however the colour is more 'washed out'. component gives brighter colours. but i still use the VGA over it as i also use my xbox as my dvd player. ideally id do games over component and dvd over VGA but i cant be arsed and i tend to take my component cable with my xbox to work on nights
