Local supplier pushing very hard to sell Carbone Lorraine brake pads which he has recently become the sole agent for. I rang to get a price on Pagid RS14s (which I'm very pleased with) for mainly track use. He claims the Carbonne Lorraine (CL) are softer with better stopping capability and that they require no special bedding in process like the Pagids. They are approx Euro 250 for full set front and rear compared to Euro 300 for the RS14s.
Anyone got any experience or knowledge of them?

I used RC6 Carbone Lorraine pads on my car for a while. They brake like mad, but that is actually a problem. IMHO they are too agressive for a light car like this and it makes it hard to modulate the brakes properly.
The RC5 is probably better with less friction and a more progressive 'bite'.
I wonder what an RC8 pad would do.. Probably lock up the wheels and hit ABS once you touch the brake pedal

The RC6 were also quite agressive on the brake discs and they can/will screech/squeel like mad. RC5 (and interestingly RC8) is supposed to be more gentle on the brake discs.
The pads (at least mine) are also delivered with way too much friction material, so you need to sand/grind them down to make them fit inside the calipers.
Because these are sintered brake pads that do not contain any organic material they are very, very consistent though. It does not matter if they are cold or hot, they *always* brake the same.
For the hardcore track users they are probably very useful: hard wearing and very consistent. Impossible to overheat. If you do road driving then I would not recommend them.
Bye, Arno.

Arno, thanks very much. Very usefull and comprehensive information.
I think the dealer is proposing RC5 for the front and RC6 for the rear. No mention of RC8.
They are using them on their Group N rally Subaru and they say they are performing exceptionally well on our tarmac stages.
I'll speak further with them tomorrow but I'm probably leaning towards the Pagids as a known reality. Also, while I do take the car only occasionally on the road and drive it to track days, I do intend taking it to the Nurburgring this year. Your comments on road use concern me and I'm not sure I want a constant squealing to become the norm on all drives. The Pagids have been very good on that front after paying particular attention to the recommended bedding in process.
By the way, the price I've been quoted over here for the Pagids appears to be very competitive compared to the prices I've seen on the many well known sites referred to throughout this forum. I'm getting them through Murray Motorsport in Dublin www.murraymotorsport.ie.
Thanks again.

If the guy is a salesman trying to get his new product shifted... get him to let you try a set for free or reduced price.. or the ability to return them if you really don't rate them
You're Terry Tibbs, get him to seduce you
(assuming they get fonejacker in oirland)

Spoke with dealer today and this is their commentary on the various Carbone Lorraine options:
RC5 pads - Track day & competition - Light car applications / single seaters
RC6 pads - Midrange Competition - Rally or Circuit
RC8 pads - Demanding racing / WRC
RC5 could do road but more competition oriented. Suggested I might want to bring a set to the Nurburgring later in the year. Would suit it very well with excellent performance cold & hot.
So its RC5s or the Pagid RS14. I told him to order the Pagids.
Thanks for all the commentary and feedback.
