Been out today with my old man looking at RR Vogues! We have seen a really nice one that we would go for but have a slight concern. The guy has upgraded the whees to 20" land rover wheels that are standar on the petrol version. The one in question is the TD6 model. When driving the car is smooth and great but when you pull up at lights for arguments sake the is a vibration sound that goes through the car. When we asked the guy he said its due to the wheels that this happens. He had them fitted at Saxons in essex and thats what they told him. He also said that if he put the old ones back on it does not do it! Has anyone heard about this or experinced this in the past? I have spoken to a sales agent at land Rover he recalls something two/three years ago where when putting 20" wheels on the TD6 there were brake calibre issues but was very unsure!! If anyone could shed any light on this it would be great! Cheers chinky chinky

Judders when braking = warped brake discs  Someone has obviously cooked them at some point, not surprising as the brakes effectively need to do more work per revolution to stop in the same distance with bigger wheels (esp if they are a lot bigger)

Is it an auto? If so its prob because its still in 'drive.' If you put it in neutral does it do it? I get the same with all the auto boxes.

The vibration is probably caused by the petrol tanks sucking £ notes in

Sounds like one to walk away from. We have a '55 TDi, which has done 70k and a lot of towing, but there is no difference between N and 'D with the brakes on' - no vibration at all. Also, do your homework on rear diff failure...

There is a well known problem with larger wheels causing vibrations whilst stationary, as silly as it sounds!! So much so that LR on TD6's reduced the recommended wheel size.
It is believed that anything bigger than 18's on the TD6 will vibrate quite badly.

There are fixes, but i'm not sure if they have decided which fix does it.

There's some more info on here: http://www.rangerove...t/fixindex.html

I'll also have a word with my mate who owns a LR specialist garage and see if he has anything to add to the above.

Thanks for all the help guys!! I have also spoken to a tech guy today he says that when you add 20" wheels its the rubber in the tyre that sends the vibrations through the car!! He also says they have trouble with gearbox/electrics and other stuff!! He reccomends buying one from 2006 on. We have now decided to go for a new shape discovery prob 2004 as he said they are great and reliable so far!! Does anyone own one have feedback or no of any problems with them? Cheers chinky chinky
