Hi all, I have seen Tesco fuel on a forecourt with 99 RON on it, has anybody tried this in their VX220 Turbo? I normally stay away from supermarket fuel, but I believe it is the highest RON fuel in the UK. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I normally use Shell Optimax or BP Ultimate. Cheers Steve

Tried a search? :beat: TMS recommend it. NickB777 reckons it blocked his jets. Go figure ...

I've been using it solidly for months now with no problems, although I've not really noticed any gains either TBH. TMS have an indepth review on their web site of Tesco, Shell and BP top fuels.

since the ecu on the N/A dosent seem to advance the ign timing any further on 99 as it does on 95 I see little to no point using expensive fuels in a rep mobile engined car...... and same largley goes for the turbo too lol

I ran my Stage 2 VXT on 95 when I first got it and it didn't like it much but being unused to the car I didn't know what exactly the problem was. Then I started using Optimax and the roughness was cured. I use Tesco 99 now and have done for over a year without any problems, but I think if you have a VXT with a higher stage of tune it's fairly essential to use a higher rated fuel. thumbsup

My NA seems to run a bit 'rough' on Tescos 99 compared to Vpower It might be my imagination though...

hated the stuff, made my Clio 172 and the vx run like a pig and the mpg dropped by about 3mpg, only recently found out that to get it to 99 RON tesco just add bio-ethanol instead of using a decent octane booster.

interestingly enough though, bio-ethanol boosted fuel dosent tend to go off as fast as the likes of optiflicflax etc

On the issue of whether it enhances performance compared to other fuels, you'll get as many different opinions as there are users here. FWIW 99 feels to me like it enhances throttle response a little compared to Optimax and Ultimate. But the difference is pretty marginal, if not non-existent, in normal road driving. I'd go out of my way not to use standard 95RON from a supermarket.

I find both my cars (VXT and V8 engined MG ZT) work best on the cheapest fuel avaliable at the time...hence I use petrolprices.com to advise me on where to purchase my petrol :)

:yeahthat:

I wont buy supermarket petrol full stop. Especially after they fcuked over all those cars a while ago!

From what I read they replace some of the octane from the petrol by topping it up with bio ethanol saving themselfs a fortune and supposedly saving the planet ;)

I would rather give the bio ethanol a miss thanks plus some people say it wears engine components faster ;)
