Hey, Just a quick questions noticed the carpet was damp in the boot of my vx after it was out is the rain I believe the night before. Has anyone else had this problem, perhaps through the grid/vents on the top? Cheers, Tom

He's spot on - I used to park my car over night on the drive uphill and would notice sometimes a rather damp boot - I think if I had had it a bit longer I would have evened the end of my drive level.

I took the carpet out. As Jules said if you park facing uphill the water will buld up in the channel around the boot and leak past the seals. You can improve things buy adjusting the boot lid but it will never be perfect.

Common problem. Check boot is closing snugly to avoid any unnecessary gap.

Make sure the join in the boot seal is at the fropnt of the car and not the back. spotted this after car had been repaired.

Luckily this is one TADTS I dont suffer from! :) Allthough I did spend a couple of hours today emptying about 1/2 a pint of water from my rear light cluster!! It was about 1/4 full!

Sorry to bring this thread back up but had the same problem and now my lights are steaming up which they have never done before, any idea how to get the steam outta the lights and how to dry the boot properly? Ive got the carpet and the bottom bit underneath out which are now drying near my fire lol

i have the same problem, the lights will de-mist themselves in time, as for the leak i have found mine to be coming in in the top of the boot not where the seal is just below there is a join that runs around, where the arm of the boot stem hinges there is a hole the water runs down there and between the join in the engine bay into the boot, that is on the passenger side, it is the same on the drivers side. There is a spray that will seal any little gap in most car part shops although i am waiting until the dry weather to try this so it has maximum adhesion. have you checked this area?

Take the light cluster out and sit there with a hair drier on it for half an hour or so. then reseal it all the way round with superglue, worked a treat for me :)

There is a reason that TADTS.... some half arsed tw4t built it LOL. You do not have to put up with it. If something is broke you can fix it....Well hopefully we can  . After picking up my '06 VXT from new, my boot was always damp, and not taking it out in the rain or parking it one way or the other is a PITA and not a proper fix! I found the water came in where the two halfs of the boot/rear clam join. From memory there are also some rivets through these two sections. I ran a bead of clear silicone around the small recess where the two halves join, and moulded a small amount of silicone around the rivets (maybe where the boot shut is?). This stopped any water coming in, and has done for two years and 26K miles in ALL weathers. If your boot is damp it will mist up your lights as the moisture in the damp air seeps into the lights from inside the boot. Mine were misting up this way. Remove the lights and place in the airing cupboard or by a radiator for a few hous and it will dry out, seal the boot and hopefully no more probs. Worked for me!! (Could have taken it to VX, but if you want something doing properly and all that  ) HTH Rob

Ouija, any chance of some pics - my wet rear end (ooerr) is starting to get on me nerves... Checked the join as you mention but mine seems to have already been siliconed. The rivets you mention - which ones have you covered? Bri
