All, Have just received some iridium spark plugs off the TMS website, and having searched  and checked the TIS etc can only find a tightening torque figure of 20Nm, but this is for the NA. Does anyone know the setting for a Turbo. Mate of mine has a Bosch Service Centre and has given me thier version of the TIS for the turbo which states 25Nm or 18lbft, but just wanted to know from the "experts", ie you lot!! what the figure is. many thanks Rob

according to courtenay, do them tight - a couple of mine were loose and it was causing a slight loss of pressure. ***warning*** - VXT uses crush washers so it is far more difficult to crack the head, unlike the NA ***warning***

just remember to loosen them and refit them every year or so.. you get quite a lot of tapping from loose spark plugs like a tappet noise but ive had a spark plug weld itself to the head (not on the vx) after not having th eplugs changed for 7 years, ended up stripping the head and having to have a helicoil put in.

Does the old "finger tight then half a turn" not apply to the 2.2 head then (haven't changed plugs myself in 4 years!) 25Nm sounds about standard but don't know many people that bother torquing plugs. The manual for my gf's TF said 12Nm (alloy head too) Do you even get a torque wrench that measures that low

Know what you mean abot the torque wrench though. Had to buy 3 (ouch!!) to cover all the stuff I do at work and home. A previous "hack" was a zetec escort which only needed about 11lbft AFAIK. Bought a 1/4" Drive wrench from snap on, that covers 1.5-15bl ft, in lb " increments, so no probs with getting the right reading if it is quite small. I'll speak to Ian at TMS later today and get the correct setting, and post it up for future reference! Rob

I would definately go for smaller gap (and cooler) plug on a modded VXT - The boost could well blow out the spark with a 1mm gap :glare:

Thanks for all the replies. Finally went to a VX dealer today who confirmed it is 25Nm as the above replies state. So thats for the record. Cheeky, thanks for that. thumbsup I have a TMS stage one with Milltek and VXR turbo, so will deffo go for the smaller gap. Just done a quick search and "MAP18W", who is at Courtenays, state they use a 0.7mm gap for ALL cars both standard and re-mapped. So 0.7 it is. Thanks everyone as always. Rob

get NGK Iridium plugs from www.sparkplugs.co.uk - they are the cheapest place on the net @£30 BKR5EIX is what they recommend for std. I would go for 1 grade cooler BKR6EIX on a lightly modded VXT

Yep!!! Thats what TMS sent me. Got them from them as I had a Milltek cat section delivered at the same time so made sense.

Cheers
