A17 Immobiliser control unit
A13 Anti theft control unit
A 4 Multes (Z22SE)
A 5 motronic (Z20LET)
H1 Instrument
X13 Diagnostic link.

A short in any of these units or the wiring to them would blow fuse 8

Hi simsy, thanks for the advice, bang on the button. The stack unit has a short. At a cost of £1200 for a new one the ebay thread you gave was useful, just got to make sure it's the correct one for my car, apprently they differ from year to year??Fuse 8 (7.5A) seems to feed the STACK instrument panel (speedo) and the imobilizer..
I would unplug the STACK unit completely and then replace fuse. If it does not blow try and start it.. It maybe the STACK unit that has a short...
(Check any wiring you have done such as radio, remove any of your wiring that maybe at fault ...
Good luck, SIMSY
Hopefully I'll back on the road soon enjoying our brief english summer

Looks like that one is from a Speedster so best check it isn't graded in KMs (and show the milage that way)
The main difference is between the NA and the tubby - the NA uses a 'real' STACK, whereas the tubby has a fake version
but presumably cheaper?

Try unplugging the other items, if you can find them quickly??? Not easy, and stacks can give problems... But must be one of the above....
Car will run OK with no stack plugged in, I believe.....
We have unplugged the Stack (speedo unit) and hey presto the car starts, fantastic. Except we don't want to pay £1200 for a new Stack. Stripped the Stack down and everything appears normal, as far as can be faulted without a circuit diagram. Will power up and check current being drawn by this unit, but does anybody have a spec on the Stack unit to say how much current should be drawn? I am guessing less than an Amp.
My fear/hope is that there is a fault elsewhere but it is the Stack that is pushing the fuse to cut its wrists.
