Sorry to sound like such a sad person but I have a problem with the information Vauxhall gave for the official fuel consumption of the VX220. I know, "wake me up when you have finished...". Anyhow the official consumption for VX220 is the same as Vectra 2.2 litre, even though: 1. The maximun speed is quoted the same - suggesting aerodynamic drag is the same. 2. Vectra is 35% heavier. This does not add up. I am afraid I travel bigish distances each week. Some people would use this as an excuse to buy a (shite) boring, "luxury" car. For me the solution to big miles is to get an exciting car. I am pretty sold on the idea of a VX220. Is there any contributor out there who racks up 700 miles + per week on A roads and motorways and sits in trafic waiting to get to their destinaton, if so what kind of fuel consumption do you get. Please don't judge me, I am not some bean counter. I love exciting cars, I want to buy the right car for me. I have test driven VX220's, I really want the car (warts and all) but I hope some member can help me finally cross the finishing line!!

Well I use mine daily for my 500 mile weekly work run on the roads you allure to. I get about 33-34 MPG with a hard top, and about 30-31 MPG with a soft top (no roof). Although it's all subjective, this I feel is pretty representitive of the MPG you'll get. Mines a stage 1 VXT with full milltek. Some people claim to be able to get 40 MPG (HOW??????????????????????????Oh yes I know, by pushing it) I tried driving sooooooooooo economically and got 32-33 MPG with the roof off so I don't bother. Just drive how you want and you get what you get, but I think mine is pretty fair. HTH chinky chinky Rob

I once got 275 miles out of one tank (£35) going to Courtenay sticking to 70mph all the way. I recon there were a few miles left in the tank too. In general I get between 180 and 230 miles (stage 2 now tho)

I beleive the above 2 relate to VXTs but i might be wrong. Maybe it's just me driving like a t*t but i've never got anything more than 230 from a tank - with 180 being the norm from my 2.2. Yes in theory you could get more, but i have a 1.2 fiat panda for that chinky chinky I think if you bank on getting at least 30mpg on your run you won't go far wrong. Bear in mind that the VX slips through the air with all the elegance of a housebrick in comparison to a vectra - you can hear all the panel gaps slowign you down ;o)

Mines N/A I do 400Miles a week for work purposes on Aroads/M'ways and get approx 38-40Mpg holding 70mph, it tends towards 40Mpg with the H/T fitted but they are gay so it never goes on now. Topless the same drive seems to get very similar 38-40Mpg too. Top speed might purely be limited by engine revs/gearbox/wheels as opposed to when you actually run out of power to hold X speed. And also weight ahs fark all to do with top speed ;), but it has everything to do with acceleration/mpg etc. I chicken out at 220-230Miles from a tank as it usually puts me at the work end of my commute so I can get fuel for 2-5p a litre less lol I honestly cant think of a better commuting car for my current needs.... OK I could get a BMW 530D but odds on it would only do 40mpg and with diesel being upto 10p more than petrol its a loss already, add in really expensive servicing and parts, and it then becomes far better value to run a light car that is over engined and under powerd (take heed OEMs!!!!)

Sitting in traffic jams on a hot day they dont really like... Id highly recommend a manual fan switch if you were buying. I would have no problem commuting in it though - just make sure you de-ice it well in winter, get a better heater pipe with wolly gloves and a hat thumbsup

On purely mway trips I get up to 275 but round town I get about 130 - 160 on average from a tank.

Mine is a turbo. Which is much more efficient that the 2.2 when driven off boost.

I think 30mpg is pretty fair (mines a 2.2 N/A), I do over 350 miles a week and most of that on the M40. Since I have had the VX I drive much slower on the main roads as the fuel gauge drops like a stone over 80mph (plus all the fibre glass flexes and feels like its about to fly off). Because the tank is very small you do end up at the petrol station quite a few times so it feels like you are spending a fortune but for the performance I think its an economic car. I often get stuck in traffic which can be frustrating particularly in a car like this but in general its fine to commute in and I can't say I don't enjoy the looks you get in the jams ; ) I would suggest if you can only have one car then make sure you will use it away from the motorway also as fast straight roads just don't do it justice.

I get 200miles per tank, without running it low, so a 30L refill a week. Having the chargecooler helps, the journey is a 15mile stop start journey in London traffic. On a drive up to Courtenay, at steady legal speed, I was getting an easy 300+ miles from the tank , 2.0 VXT

any car on the motorway is boring, so personally I would take the shed for those trips - only marginally more economical in terms of fuel but stone chips don't stand out on a 100k+ chavalier covered in shite! plus parts are pennies and it is easy to work on so labour is low oh, and I get between 160 to 220 miles from a tank (VXT) the shed does 420 miles from a tank (60l) and cost £130 15 months ago, so far 2 tyres and tracking are the only costs after 18k miles.... should really change the oil i suppose! high miles on a vxt will cost more than a rep mobile in servicing unless you do it yourself

I get 30-34mpg on the road. That's mainly B road type blatting as it's a 2nd fun car. Roof off more than on. 15mpg on the track. I can imagine it would give in the high 30's driven like a saint whilst commuting on long straight roads.

Everyone thanks a lot. I was hoping to get better fuel ecconomy than the Vectra with the same engine but there you go. As I said I am looking for an exciting car, and that still stands. Even considering the fuel consumption issue I am still very keen to purchase a VX220. Also I am pleased that no one who replied was taking the pee. Some forums become useless because they are full of responses by morons. VX220 forum is very wellcoming. Once again thanks to everyone.
