We've just finished the first new Avon Adventure RIB, 8.50 metre RIB.

Unfortunately wouldn't take the new 350hp engine, but still took it's little brother, the 300hp, 5.3 litre V8 :)

Yeah, not sure on the speed yet as it's still being run in. So far achieved about 48 knots.

Our last demo boat:

Runs a 350hp V8, achieved 56 knots, 64mph. :groupjump:

:yeahthat:

You might want to reduce the number or size of the pictures (or both) as my browser gave up trying to load them after about 10 minutes.

Sorry, I'm hosting them for Avon to use in their new brochure, hence the size. Couldn't be bothered to upload 2 lots of photos, in high and low res. There's over 250! Took most of the night to upload. Sorry

That does look very B) Dan, I love RIB's, remember getting nicked in Venice when me and some lads took the ships PAC 22' on a shopping trip!!! :D The locals weren't happy as we went past the pontoon bus stop for the water bus and our wake got all their feet wet!! :beat: It wasn't hard for them to figure out where we came from, we hd the white ensign fluttering away on the back!!! DOH!!

A real monster of a RIB. Is that a digital dash on the Garmin? If so, how does it fair in bright conditions? Any idea of fuel consumption at full chat? Got to be megga rich to run it for a season. I cringe when ever I fill up my tank on my 130 HP Bayliner for a days outing. Dave K

By PAC, do you mean Pacific 22?

I had an Halmatic Arctic 22 on brokerage here for a little while, hell of a RIB! Hilux stuggled to tow it, built like a battle ship!

By the way, the Avon RIB (the first boat) is £61,000 and the Cobra (the second RIB) was nearer £70,000

It's a touchscreen GPS plotter, radar, digital fishfinder, linked up to the engine system. The engine is fly by wire and has a network system for the gauges and control box. We have linked the Garmin up to the network which brings up all the information the ECU has to give. Oil pressure, temp, water temp, trim, voltage, fuel flow, total average and current, speed, tacho, hours etc...

I have used 135 litres an hour at one point in the 350hp. It has been said it will burn over 150 litres an hour but haven't managed that yet. I used £150 to get from Lymington to Portsmouth and back one evening when I fancied a jolly. Mind you, at 135 litres an hour you're doing 64mph so you're not going to be going that quick for long. I found it's not too bad when cruising and it's hardly working.

The GPS plotter is great, as you can overlay the fuel figures onto the bottom of the GPS chart. If you have a route set, it will tell you how many miles you have left on your route and your current fuel range, so you can travel at your most economical speed.

The Garmin is really goo din bright conditions. It has a light sensor so adjusts accordingly. You can buy it in non touchscreen which is a bit cheaper.

That really is an all singing and dancing system Imnotworthy However, not throughly covinced that with age electronics and salt water go together..but old fashioned in that way. Was looking last year at the Southampton boat show at a Garmin combied GPS/fFsh finder, even that was nearly £600! Also find that exposure to direct sunlight over a period of time does burn out the screen...prehaps technology has improved. Think that I would have some explaining to do If I dipped into the family bank account for a £150 Jolly !! Luckly I work in the oil business, so keep on burning it

Just in the process of making a new online shop with pretty good discounts to be competitive. Still uploading things now.

Have a look here: SHOP

Not sure if that's allowed - commercial links and all that, it's not like I'm selling alloy wheels! :)

I've only worked here a couple of years or so, not had many units back yet. Only one or two of the older GPS units. Repair is usually pretty cheap, I think a new screen is about £90 fitted so not too bad.

GPS plotter and fishfinder can now be bought for as little as £379. The new screens are much brighter and clearer than the old ones. The GPS/radar/fishfinder system on the Avon is worth around £4,100.

Dan, Thanks for the link to the shop. I think it was the Garmin GPS Map 550S that I was looking at..cheaper by far from the shop than the show :jump:
