...I’ve just returned from Castle Coombe today. I was “in the zone” following a new found friend in well driven 500 Superlight. We were taking it in turns to lead, ok he was about 4 secs a lap quicker but the traffic was being kind to me. (My God, can they hold speed through the corners!) I had fitted some Pagid RS15’s to the fronts and it was my first try with them...Holy Shi* they do grab quickly & wipe speed dramatically, so dramatically in fact, that I had to seriously modulate the pedal in order to stop mega front lock ups. ... Anyway I digress, I was approaching quarry with a 2-eleven close in front as the superlight had snicked passed, braked but nothing significant happened so I had to try and pass tight on the inside, otherwise I would have rammed into his rear. The car violently spun as I passed the surprised 2-eleven guy sideways and luckily for my ended up parallel to the tyres a foot away with the engine still running and my pants a little heavier than normal. I, at the time thought that I had locked the brakes, hence the spin, so I tore off at warp speed like a knob, approached the Esses to find my brake pedal on the floor. With a bunch of cars in front I had to take the car off the track & purposely spin the car to lose speed and ended up passing yet more tyres at close proximity without hitting them....Yes, my pants were now beyond salvage and fit for the bin. ...I limped back to the pits under the red flag and parked up my car straight on my trailer using the handbrake along the way. In the pits the 2-Eleven guy came over to me, he realised what has happened as my front nearside wheel was sitting in a puddle of brake fluid and he then said, “sh*t that’s bad luck mate, do you fancy taking out my car for a few fast laps!” Now that’s what I call a dude! I did decline, as I felt that I had used up all my lucky cards that day. I was to be at Brands Hatch tomorrow with LOT and after a quick pleading phone call to Plans, I have managed to get them to look at my car first thing tomorrow, if they can fix it then at least I will get a PM session in. Apart from that, it was a fab day, shame I didn’t get to try the 2-Eleven, as I am seriously considering getting one for track days and parting company with my orange friend.

nice, good corner to do it at lol sounds like either a nailed hose. Or worst case a mullered caliper. If it was the hose you could have fixed it and been back out in an hour lol (good ole merlin motorsport)

I'm glad I am booked in for a roll cage to be fitted. The feeling of heading towards a wall out of control is not very nice. In fact, it may help me push harder around the track knowing that should the worst happen, then at least I should come out in one piece.

... Mark in the Superlight (He has been tracking for 15 years) gave me a few pointers and I was eventually managing to take Camp corner vitually flat out with only a very slight initial trailing brake into the corner (but you must get the apex right, if you hit it late then it will be a brown pant moment). Also on the positioning over the rise down to Quarry with braking and turn in point which did help a great deal. Mind you it's easy for him when he only has to brake & carry through 425kg of weight with a power to weight ratio of over 440bhp/ton.

Regarding the PAX rides, I will bring some soft cushions for padding, just makes sure your life cover is up-to-date...

Cheers

I remember Camp corner poof to be pretty scary for the sheer reason that there's only about 20ft of grass before you hit the concrete.

This incident springs to mind Impreza-ive crash
