I will start by explaining why I want to convert a VX220.
In Norway where I live, the Native speedsters with 40K miles on the clock starts at £22 000 and a speedster in Germany with 20Kmiles starts at
17 000euros.....The difference i obvious, here a VX220 with 20Kmiles costs around £9000 (from what I have seen) :groupjump:

So, What parts would I need? Is it difficult, have only rebuild old cars(pre 1970)? Where to get the speedster parts(anyone knows the german word for salvage?) What would be the price if I let Thorney or a garage(any recomendations?) do it(for below £4000)?

Lastly, I have spoted a car that seems nice...... Its Racing Green!! Imnotworthy

Agree with Meagy that it should be fairly straight forward. Might be worth trying to get a photograph under the front bonnet of a LHD VX. I would be surprised if there is anything more than the Steering Column, Dash build-up, Pedal box, Seat swap.

Plans Motorsport has converted their Race car Exige to a single seater mid mounted location...It looks very cool, but is very difficult to get into...

Everything under the bonnet is in the "wrong" place. For example the brake servo and fuse boxes, heater too I think. Pedals and steering column of course, but also the seats and mid console thing too I believe. Dash, speedometer, etc. etc. Wasn't there a guy from Australia asked the same question (maybe LHD to RHD though) a while ago? If I'm not totally confused, he had made up quite a good list of what had to be done. Try a search.

So what would a RHD Vauxhall VX220 sell for in Norway then? Far less because it's not LHD or still more than in the UK? (I suppose there are registration/tax issues with foreign vehicles??)

As I had dismantled my front end to the bare chassis, I would say: - Get LHD steering rack (obvious) - Get LHD dashboard & upper aluminium "dash" strip - Relocate pedal box (when same as LHD) - relocate vent control + "wiring grommet" LHD version - relocate Heater (LHD version) - Loosen wiring loom from front & re-attach "mirrorred" for LHD, incl fuse box. - (get LHD plastic front inner wheel guards) - relocate steering collumn + dash for LHD - Change front lights to LHD version - Change rear light cluster (reverse light on wrong side...) - ???? Lot of work to do it good, and not really cheap. Even with 2nd hand parts...

when i was looking for a LHD in germany last year the prices were not so high, saw 1 or 2 for 13-14000 euros. Look onto the german speedster forum and see what they think (ive written on there a couple of times in english, and they have been very responsive replying and helping out. Like all cars, if its worth waiting for its best to wait and take your time...... thats my own opinion chinky chinky Edit: Just checked out mobil.de and there are 9 speedsters for under 16000euros. cheapest one is 14.900 with only 58000km..... so they are still there even though we are in the middle of a fantastic heatwave :-)

Answer is simple.

Dump the wife and kids and come and live in Britain

Best roads in Wales or in Scotland.

I can see the buy a speedster point....But still overall the British examples seems to be in better shape for their milage, and offers less use for less money....I have only driven a Speedster in Norway, but from what i felt you were in the middle of the car even in the passenger seat. So how will it be driving a RHD car on a LHD road or the other way around? Is it a major problem? A final question, Do anyone know the ca. Price for the conversion, what would Plans/Thorney take for the job? What would only the parts cost?

A Speedster goes for about £22K-£26K in Norway.....30K for a Tubby...For the cars with Norwegian number plate, aprox £5000 in taxes and VAT....more for the turbo. Would guess I can sell a RHD vx220 NA for 18-20K in Norway....considering an elise S1 is 30K.........Even a Epsrit 1988 model is 30K...... thumbsdown Oh.....the New Opel Gt is £60 000 now.... :angry2:

If you want to feel good about owning an expensive car just go to: http://www.finn.no and click on Bil then on Alle Biler.....And see what road tax really means...... :angry2:

Mvh. Petter...

Check the Swiss prices. www.autoscout24.ch My experience is that they are very lightly used and a very good value. I picked mine up for 25'000 CHF with 5'000 km (that's about 10K UKP).

The Irish ones are Speedsters (as opposed to VX220s), but they are definitely RHD.
