I have wanted the black surround for ages, but a few days ago I got a chip in my screen.

Its on the passenger side so probably would pass the MOT.

The other thing is that im sure my existing screen is not correctly bonded on and this is what is causing my leaks in the PAX footwell (if i press on the bottom on the glass in the pax corner it actually moves up and down away from the dash)

Do i contact my insurer first then call the company to give them the part number for the VXR screen, or call autoglass first and send the bill to my insurer?

Can someone also cofirm that 9197913 is the correct part number for the VXR/LY screen please

Cheers

chinky chinky

Yeah that's the right number!!

Ring your insurance company, and ask if it's in your policy.

If so, tell them your screen is cracked.

They will give you contact details for Autoglass

Ring them, detailing the part number.

You will probably have back and forth calls for a bit, but each time mention teh part number!!!

You'll have to go to them for 3-4hrs

Good luck

You'll probably find that there is a dedicated windscreen replacement number for your insurance company and it'll end up ringing in the Autoglass (or A.N.Other companies) call centre. All they'll want is your policy number and they'll book you in somehwere local. Then you'll want to contact that branch and i) make sure they get a black one in and ii) assure yourself that they know how to do a VX/Elise screen.

There are actually two chips, but probably both repairable. Who knows? Ive just called my insurance and had a call back from Autoglass, but when i said it needed to be black; the guy asked if it is black at the moment, i said yes and he said they would take the trim off the existing one and re-fix it onto the new glass? Is this right? I did give him the part number so fingers crossed.

This is taken from another thread:

(With regards to repairing the chip)

Both told me that they cannot use a heat-pack due to the curvature of the screen, so even the tiniest chip means a new screen (tho it took them three attempts to get a VXR one, Vaux kept on sending scratched ones!)

Edit - Its actually a company called Morgan's Windscreens in Wolverhampton, not Autoglass.

If you definetly want black try rac if your insurance company allow. When I checked stock for a forum member (Boghouse) the other day we had 5 black and 5 silver in stock at our warehouse in birmingham. With regards changing the trim over I'm not sure if that can be done. It's been a while since i fitted one of these screens but I don't think that would be possible without it looking cack. Ren

Er no the suround is part of the windscreen, I 've just had a new one fitted and they have to cut the old surround away from the frame using cheese wire.

Adrian Flux sent me to these guys: Autoglass George Henry Rd Tipton, West Midlands, DY4 7BZ 0121 557 5418 Knew exactly what they were doing [as opposed to numpties at RAC the time before!], I very much doubt you'd be able to cut the surround off successfully - I offered to pay the small difference in price between silver and black (about £25 I think )

Just had mine replaced by RAC Autowindscreens in Liverpool. Went from silver to black as part of the deal (with no extra charge) and they/I had no problems with them doing a great job (after they received some fitting guidance from Ren...cheers mate) Car looks SO MUCH BETTER for having black screen too Imnotworthy

Just called my insurance co to ask if i could use RAC/Autoglass instead. But was told that neither are approved by Bell so i would have to pay the full amount :( They knew nothing about 'Morgans Windscreens' and said that National Windscreens are the company doing the repair, it appears that National Windscreens have panelled the job out to a small local company. They have no screens in stock and will have to order one in. I suggested that RAC in brum have them in stock and maybe they could get one from there, that went down like a lead balloon! Next thing i know ive got the Bloke from Morgans windscreens on the phone again saying "what can i do for you mate?, National windscreens said you wanted me to call you". I asked when he would be able to do the work and he said a few days at least, still waiting to hear back from his supplier. Just called BELL again to say i am not happy and would like it done asap, i asked if there is any way that i can use a different company that have one in stock and have worked on these cars before. waiting a call back....

Just had the callback from bell If i pay RAC £500 for the replacement screen and send them the invoice, they will refund all but £70 of it for the excess. I dont have £500 sitting in my account so i guess i'll wait till next week  A bit worrying though, what if my screen was completley smashed? am i supposed to drive around for a week like that? Bell thumbsdown rant

I wasn't there when they fitted it, they originally said they would come to my work and do it there but then they found out it was a 2 man job so i had to leave it with them. I asked if he had to move the clam and he said he didnt touch it! Phil - Im going for set of anthracite turbo alloys, so im not going to do the lights. I want it to still look like an N/A (to the people that will know). Hopefully ill be able to pick up a cheap-ish set when the Speedlinealike GB is on, as i need new tires and a new alloy as it is,
