Just had the same problem on the near side and still waiting for the gaiter which is quoted on 10-14 days delivery. (£62 from Vaux or £42 from Autovaux) Managed to find a complete driveshaft assembly from a breakers for £75 so fitted that whilst i'm waiting

It might be the driveshaft seal actually *in* the gearbox? I would have thought that if the gaiter broke you'd get CV grease out, which is thick and black, but if it's the seal you get red oil from the gearbox? Could be wrong there though as it's possible the shafts use gearbox oil? Shaft gaiter gone is by far the easiest to fix. You can even buy gaiters that are already split that you glue back together while on the driveshaft, so you don't even have to remove it. As paulCP says, it's probably easiest to buy a whole new shaft if the gaiter has gone, and just swap it out... Otherwise, as I recall the gearbox seals are a standard plastic/rubber kindof thing. Hardest bit would be getting the old one out - but the new one should just be push fit... Only reasonable special tools I think you'd need are a 30mm socket for the hub nut, and an 8mm allen key (a socket mounted one is best) so you can get the gearbox plugs out to drain/refill it - they usually require quite a bit of force.

Hi,
Smae happened to me back in March/April time.
Here's a pic of the offending mess:

Guglielmi's fitted a new driveshaft boot - Vauxhall's were on back order so they used a silicone one from a Honda Super Touring car.
Pretty straight forward job and not an uncommon fault on VX's and Lotae.

Thats them ;) also known as output seal remove old seal with a seal remover(http://www.machinema...utomotive-tools) smear l outer side of new seal with gearbox fluid ,insert and use a socket wide enough to fit on the outer side of the seal & tap it home ensuring its kept square ;) job done

I replaced my oil seals recently on an N/A, the part number for Autovaux is GM90342143 and they were £11.91 + VAT each. They were a right nightmare to get the old ones out, especially the passenger side as it is recessed a lot more, admitedly I didn't have a proper tool to do it. Getting them back in I bought a socket from Halfords that fitted over it and they went in fine. I then cheekily returned the socket as I didn't need it and it had cost £15. Ren
