Good morning everyone, This morning on my run to work my Scanguage shows fault code P1612. My list of codes shows this as - P1612 Engine Control Module Incorrect Coding. I've never had a fault code show before and have my 2.2NA at stage 1 for several years. Everything seems to be working fine. Shall I clear the code and see what happens? Anyone had a similar code and know what it means? Thanks Sol.

Sounds like it could be related to the immobiliser? If so then probably safe to clear (assuming you haven't had any problems starting the car) but probably best to wait until someone turns up who knows for sure what it's related to!

GM/Opel Specific error code: P1612 Loss of IPM Serial Data It does indeed look to be an intermittent comms fault on the immobiliser, possibly between the ignition module and the ECU. It probably is best to reset and try again, but is likely to fail again on starting. Id start by trying a different (spare) key, but it is more likely down to wiring...

Thanks for info all, you've got me a bit worried if I have an imobiliser problem, but I didn't have any problems starting the car and only noticed the error code whilst driving along. I'll re-set the scanguage lunchtime and see what happens on the way home this evening. I put my car into a garage last week to have the front re-sprayed to get rid of the stone chips. I wonder if they tried to start the car only on the key (without the button) and have put some force into the ignition lock? Could that have caused this error reading? What do you think? regards Sol

P1612 means immobiliser no or wrong signal.

So there probably was some communication issue between the immobilizer and the ECU. You should be able to erase this without a problem. Just see if it comes back. Could be an connectivity issue between the ECU and the immobilizer, or a problem with the immobilizer/keys.

BTW, if you want to check for error codes, look in the library of the Dutch Speedster Club, there are documents there with the engine specific fault codes:

http://www.speedster...heek/technische documentatie/tis/Checking Procedure/index.html

See the document on the GMPT-E15

Hopefully close out of thread: I re-set the scanguage and asked it to clear the fault. re-programmed my favorite setting into the scanguage display and drove home without any problems or re-emergence of the code. - I'm going to put it down to a spurious fault message? Unless it returns. By the way Mark I couldn't get the speedster link to work, but thanks for the interest and advice. Sol
