Ricky/Anders/anyone, Can you advise as to whether these are the right conrods for the 2.2 engine, before I order them? Four 4340 forged steel connecting rods with a 5.765" center to center length CHEVY ECOTEC 2.2L Forged H-Beam Rods . They have a stock crank pin diameter stock piston pin diameter, and a stock big end width. They weigh 550g. They come bushed with A-18 bronze wrist pin bushings.Every rod is magnafluxed x-rayed and ultrasonic tested to ensure the best quality. All surfaces are cnc machined with 356 processing, shot peened and stress relieved. The big and small ends are crossground by a Sunnen Power Stroke Honing machine. PART#CRS5765C3D Thanks, Steve

this is the ones from flo-part (or what they are called) on ebay right?. there is a earlier ecotec 2,2 and i´m not entirely sure this is the one that fits. send them an email and get all measures. then i can do a compare with the stock ones i got loose. i found a thread at jbo with a couple of tuners in the states that´s got parts for our engine. i´ll post them as soon as i find them again. the rods looks just fine to me and the company seemes better than another i know

Hi Anders, Thanks for the reply. I'm in touch with them at the moment, so I'll get all the measurements, etc. Yes, sorry to hear your troubles with Mantaparts. You never know, he might come good. The trouble they get into is that their suppliers won't supply them when the cash dries up, so some poor customer gets hurt. Steve

steve, planning some supercharging? otherwise the stock ones are plenty good 'til 250ish hp.... if not boosting, I'd rather go for forged, lighter pistons.....like the mantapart ones...

Hi Ricky, Yup, supercharging. I'm happy(ish) to go with the Courtney £5k job, but I want to use forged rods and decompressed pistons, and do a lot of the build work myself. If I can present them with a finished short-block that I've built and am happy with, then they can do the rest. I shall get the head reworked as well, and a four-branch exhaust. I've got the cat section already, but (don't laugh) I want to keep the standard muffler. I like peace in my car - not too much noise. These rods on Ebay are made by eaglerod.com. Steve

As I want to get the supercharger too, obviously I'm interested in upgrading the rods and pistons too rather than having the drilled D-M rods and thicker gasket. But, not even had the head off a car for about 30 years ( ), so I would let D–M fit the parts – along with a lightened flywheel (still looking at a source for that – Courtenay say theirs is same as VX Sprint and 3kg lighter than standard, but supplied on exchange basis; AmD still developing theirs AFAIK).

I really don't like the idea of sending dosh to some yank firm and having to hope that I get something (eventually). This Ecotec engine is reasonably common in Europe, so surely there must be a source here, where we we stand a better chance of regress if delivery proved "difficult"...

Are there no Opel/Vauxhall/Saab tuning freaks out there who know where we could source these parts, as I think we could get a few people to come in on this?

I'd love a more local source, Speedy, but what you'll still get, will be the American rods and pistons that someone has imported, and have turned dollars into pounds and added some more for luck! It's time to talk to Courtney and say we want forged bits, but that'll add a thousand on top of the £5k so far, maybe? I'll talk to them. It's been 30 years for me too. The last engine I built was a 1600cc ford block for a '60's Consul Capri. It cost a lot of time and money to do, and when I stripped down the "old" engine I loosely screwed the sump plug back into the sump for safe keeping. When I added the new engine, I forgot to do up the sump plug again (stupid, I know), and managed to dump the whole contents of the engine onto the Kingston bypass! Steve

Hi Anders, Thanks for the links. I didn't get a reply from Eagle about whether they fitted my engine or not, so I didn't bid in the end. There's always a barguin when you have money, so I'll wait for the next lot! Steve

Have you thought of checking out Carrillo in the US? They used to make excellent forged rods and seem to be still in business. We ran some in "twinks" turning out about 210 bhp at 11,000 rpm (a very long time ago). I never knew *anybody* throw a Carrillo rod: they were always the tough standard. Kind regards - Ian

my local tuner offered me carrillo's.....undisputed "the best" in the rod-field. .....only problem..... the price. 800 euros for the set felt a bit......too much. so I steered toward....Mantapart.... that, among other claims, told me his rods are made on "carrillo's specs"....... ....I only wish their honesty was up to spec as well.....

You can get Carrillo rods through their sister company over here - Perfect Bore 01264 773666. Speak to Mark Otway - He's been in the business longer than he'd probably care to mention & what he doesn't know off the top of his head he can find out in no time at all. No, I'm not on their payroll, just a happy customer!

Well I ordered my Eagle forged rods - more correctly, I won them on Ebay for $300. They are part number CRS5765C3D. It comes to $335 including shipping, which works out to a very cheap £170 - unless customs hit me... 4 (Major Brand Name)*** 4340 forged steel connecting rods with a 5.765" center to center length. sounds like a good pick steve... good for you... hopefully we should be able to compare specs soon.... mantapart said "monday shipping", that is, today.... did you get some customer satisfaction rating about the seller? ...what is exactly involved in the "CNC" machining process?

Hi Ricky, CNC is Computerised Numerical Control. It's technical verbage for a machine that is controlled by a computer for things such as positioning, speed, etc. The idea is, you feed in a drawing, some raw material, and the machine does the rest! Nowadays what machines aren't computer controlled? So it really is techno mastabation speak... Steve
