Hiya all, Well after a year of proud ownership of my Tubby I am finally building up confidence to take her on a track day. Any suggestions of the best track in the M62 area that offers good space for mistakes of a novice driver? Any other track day tips gladly received. Steve

You are not that well off for tracks oop north. Oulton is best left for a while, Croft is not too bad, but not a 'beginner' circuit Elvington is not a circuit, has nothing to hit but will scrap your tyres. Stock answer, Bedford.

I had also read that Bedford is the best for beginners, just is a good distance away. I have seen that LOT are running a novice session at Rockingham on the inner circuit in Nov so may enquire. Thanks.

If you do it, I hope the weather is friendlier than it was for the National, last November. It was absolutely freezing.

The infield National circuit is really good and suits VX's. Quite technical but very enjoyable once you get the hang of it. There were lots of "offs" at the National but don't think anyone incurred any real damage other than a nice collection of pea gravel in the undertrays and between the tyre and wheel rim from the gravel traps. It is a little tight for run-off on a couple of corners but you should be fine as long as you don't go nuts. thumbsup

Hi Steve I'm from Wakefield so not far from you. Rockingham is a great first circuit. Plenty of breathing space on an open pitlane day and if they run a configuration (like the national circuit) with the horrible bowl taken out its great. It can be a bit tricky to get right as it is quite technical. My favorite track is Croft. Its dead easy to pick up and not many places to go wrong if you go steady. Its also a bit closer to leeds than Rockingham.

sorry but its a no brainer ,youve got to do elvington, its not to far if things go tits up and theres nowt to hit,yes it can be a bit rough on tyres so what its better than twatting the car on a track first time out, bedford is fooking miles away so is rockingham. after a few goes at elvington try donnigton its a fast curcuit but it has good run off ,next id say croft, also more important than the venue is the trackday company you use the best ones are bookatrack, easytrack, javalin and lotus on track. chinky chinky

Rockinghams only an hour and a half from Leeds. Elvington is logically a good place to go for a slide about but the surface is buggered. Cost in a front end respray as part of your day out!

I've just signed up for this - so it would be good to see some other VXs there... B)
Still 8 places left on the novice day (Sat 15th Nov).

Baz.

Inner circuit is the best there (national circuit) the bowl looks good but its not nice doing 120 2 feet from it.
